It has to be a different encode if the disc houses both films. If they were two separate discs then it could be the exact same disc. I was referring to the master.

Will be interesting to see if there is a visible difference in quality from the 2-film vs 1-film discs.

Watching "The House That Vanished" now and the first thing you'll notice are 4 vertical green lines in opening scenes, and then also recurring later, plus lots of audio-pops and scratches on the soundtrack. Worst, though, were all the weird colored blotchy blobs moving around on the image. I don't know what to make of that! I recall someone saying something like this about "Don't Look in the Basement" which I didn't buy. I guess it could just be a defect on the print used, but it's quite weird and I don't think I've seen such a thing on countless drive-in prints I've watched over the years, and it's the most distracting part of the transfer. Overall, it looks like a decent, but somewhat worn, theatrical print, and for a "drive-in" series like this, I suppose it's all acceptable. It surely looks better than the old VHS.

However, back to the VHS from Media Video, the print of the film on that old VHS ran 98 minutes, although the box mistakenly said 84. The print on the Dark Forces release runs 89 minutes, so shorter by 9 minutes? Uh-oh. I like the film, but don't know it by heart, so I would have no idea what's missing.

Eerie Midnight looks better because no weird blotches, and I bet it's identical to the Code Red blu which we all probably have, so who cares anyway? Drive-in mode? Nah, I have enough trailer compilations so skipped this feature.

Not unhappy with this purchase and maybe this is the best we'll ever get of "Vanished", and that's why I jumped quick as the supposed legal issues with the film had me worried this may get pulled quickly. But I may wait for proper reviews for other titles in the future.

I should add, that I just checked out the Drive-In mode, and there are a lot of really quirky and bizarro drive-in concession ads I've never seen, some really goofy vintage stuff - those definitely added some extra value to this disc now. The interview with an animated "stomach" laying back in his car waiting for the movie to start and discussing why he is craving a pizza is beyond ridiculous!

There's also a "No PDA will be tolerated here" ad!

Yeah, HOUSE is in real rough shape - was surprised that EERIE looks better. I don't regret the purchase, but I hope that folks aren't expecting a pristine version scanned from the original negative.

i love the "claim" they make on their FB page "....they had to do extensive restoration to it" what extensive restoration? do a best light of a beat to death print ? its sad some labels will lie about things like this, thus making consumers not trust honest labels for saying their title did go through real restoration.

EDIT so its short by 9 minutes too! this should be mentioned on the packaging as a disclaimer. sheesh!

I am more bummed out by this being the cut version of the film, to tell the truth - guess I am getting used to rough transfers of beat up theatrical prints after buying several Dorado Films releases, haha.

I’m buying OFFERINGS and KILL OR BE KILLED and I don’t see Dark Force getting much more of my business.

I really wish the runtime would have been advertised for The House That Vanished. I still would have bought it(despite the cuts) due to the rarity of the film but some honesty upfront goes a long way.

It would be nice to know exactly what is cut from this release if anyone has or is familiar with the 98 minute vhs.

I dont’ think we can expect that from Dark Force though, they where shady from the get-go trying to unload Spasms dvds or asking $50 for Necromancy... and now this, it’s buyer beware it seems.

the "original" was $17.99 yesterday, $19.99 today. i'm selling my original Code Reds of House at the Edge of the Park and the DF of Last House on Massacre Street/Wild Little Bunch to grab this, i wonder how much this super cool second edition will be

edit: went ahead and grabbed the House at the Edge of the Park/Last House on Massacre Street & Chaos/Don't Look in the Basement after getting bid on the Code Red disc. i'll buy Offerings from Amazon down the line, and i'll come back for Kill or Be Killed.
