FEMALE TROUBLE!!!

I am very excited for this. Plus I do like that cover. I know Mink Stole confirmed it, but I completely forgot about it coming this year so seeing that made me jump up.

Gotta love it.

And I just saw the extras, yeah this is gonna be a good release IMO.

Bowling for Columbine is great. And an important documentary for it's decade and sadly still relevant today.

Regardless of one's opinions on Moore's political views.

Also happy to see Virgin Spring. I was afraid that Criterion would release a giant Bergman box set or something.

They still could, and I'd be surprised if they don't (this year, next year, sometime in the future).

Both the Hitchcock and Del Toro box sets came only after each title came out individually.

Day 1 purchase for me.

LOVE Michael Moore and his documentaries. Bowling for Columbine was one of the first documentaries I watched and really enjoyed. Started and sparked a passion for documentaries and politics in my young self.

I think the box set will be huge and expensive and primarily for the uber-fan, where they will still release individual Bergman titles that they expect to sell well. I think the Arrow release of "Last House on the Left" might have been a factor in the scheduling, but that's just a guess.

An Erice film and it's not Spirit of the Beehive. That's some top tier trolling, Criterion. El Sur would be magnificent if I didn't already own the BFI Blu-Ray.

Yeah, they're not releasing the film based on your feelings of Moore, just like they're not releasing Repulsion based on what Polanski did later in his life. It's a monumental documentary that won an Oscar and is relevant now more than ever. I get not liking the film or Moore, but its inclusion isn't difficult to understand.

Too bad he lies and outright stages shit for his "documentaries".
He's a disgrace to his profession, despite any entertainment value he can pull out.

This literally can be traced back to Flaherty's 1922 film Nanook of the North. I don't think people would be lobbying the same complaints if that film were to get an upgrade.

EDIT: Again, you're proving the point. It's an important film, despite what your knee-jerk emotional reaction suggests.

Meh.

Surprised we haven't gotten a Kurosawa upgrade in awhile. The Bad Sleep Well would be nice.

Bullshit is never important.
And most people know that Nanook is false, sadly lots of people are still buying into Moore's garbage as fact.

I don't look at Michael Moore as a true documentarian, I consider him more of a gonzo filmmaker. I generally share his political views but I do find him personally kind of annoying and, yes, quite manipulative in how he presents facts in many of his films (the scene in Bowling For Columbine where he just walks up to doors in Canadian houses to find them unlocked for example). I will point out though that lots of documentary filmmakers utilize similar tactics. IMO, it's primarily because of his outspoken political stances and his comparative success that he attracts a lot more vitriol.

And yes Bowling For Columbine IS a worthy addition to the Criterion Collection for many reasons.
