Default subwoofer Y adapter

I've got an ED a2-300 being built and I'm looking to pick up a y adapter. Monoprice doesn't carry any. any suggestions on a good cable?

eD actually recommends not using one.

That said, I would try Bluejeanscable or good old Amazon.

Save your money, you dont need it. just plug it in with a subwoofer cord. i believe some even use RCA cables?

It's a funny thing... most subs I've sold and worked with had two inputs, one being for mono but when I used a Y-jack (female to 2 male RCA), I got more output from the sub. I'm sure there are technical and scientific reasons why I shouldn't hear more output but I always do and so did the other guys I worked with. Just make sure it's a decent Y-jack because some are not sheilded well and you'll hear a bad 'hum' from it. There are good cheap ones around... hit Radio Shack... Techni-Contact makes good ones... Monster does as well and Planet Waves.

If you can't find one, I'll mail you one for free. Just take the single RCA line from your receiver, and use the Y-jack on the sub's two female RCA inputs.

its just giving you an increase in DB, same as turning it up a little more...

You weren't imagining it. You typically can get a +3db response from using a Y-splitter.

Is it possible then, that the stronger signal you take to the sub via they adaptor, the less the sub's internal amplifer has to work? I wondered about that.

I dont see why it would be working less to produce extra db's, ya know. I believe you gain, if im not mistaken, 6 db's. but you gotta figure that extra 6 has to come from the subs amp anyways right?

Edit - just saw the above, i guess its 3 db's but either way, you get what im trying to say...

I hear ya but let's say for instance, that your sub is at a certain level of volume output and you leave it there. Then you go into the receiver's menu and lower or heighten the 'subwoofer level' or even the LFE. Since you are changing the 'signal strength' to the sub's amp, would it be safe to say that the sub's internal amp, is either working a bit harder or less, depending on where your receiver's menu levels are set? Do you know what I'm getting at? I'm just wondering if it's true and if so, would it not then be best to pump up the levels coming from the receiver so the sub doesn't work as hard or does it really make no difference at all really?

We're treading back into familiar territory, but here's the deal- I had one and used it. I too could tell the difference in volume. I wouldn't hesitate to use it again with my incoming sub should I feel the need to.

However, one of the manufacturers of the sub you're getting actually recommended not to. In my mind, that's enough right there. Who knows more about their sub than them?

*edit* Whoops, got you confused with the OP.

very true. my sub company makes no mention of using one and says there is no difference, but other companies differ...

I know what your saying. Im no huge expert but what I like to do is keep my receiver level at 0 and let the sub do all the work, ima believer of keeping the signal as natural as can be, meaning trying to keep levels at 0 if possible. I would also think that its all the same whether your receiver levels are set lower or what not. With me, if my receiver levels were lower, id end up turning the sub power higher and vice versa, ya know...

I'd contact customer service/tech support and ask what problem would occur on the ED by using the adaptor. I'd be interested in knowing.

I doubt there would be any problem, short of possible increased line noise/interference.

I use 2 Y cables one for each sub.I have used subs without them.
