This year's festival - the 71st - begins on May 8th. The line-up will be announced on April 12th.

Any predictions? Variety has just published an article mentioning lots of potential Palme d'Or contenders.

Not mentioned in the article, but hoping to possibly see these premiere there:

Domino (De Palma)
Ad Astra (Gray)
At Eternity's Gate (Schnabel)

Looking at the article.... wow, 2018 is gonna be a great year. So many great directors with a new movie coming out.

Last year’s line up was ace, so probably this year’s will be a bit naff. Tends to be the way it goes.

I don't think we'll be seeing that one premiere here. That seems more like a Venice/TIFF/Telluride kind of premiere than Cannes, even though I know Gray usually gets a lot of love in France.

Martin Scorsese To Receive Golden Coach Award At Directors’ Fortnight

The French Directors’ Guild will present Martin Scorsese with the honorary Carrosse d’Or (Golden Coach) Award at the 2018 Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes.

Scorsese will receive the award on May 9, the opening night of Directors’ Fortnight, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. In its announcement, the guild said it was “proud to celebrate an outstanding and inspiring filmmaker.” The tribute will include a screening of Mean Streets, which Scorsese presented at Directors’ Fortnight in 1974, followed by a conversation with the filmmaker.

Launched in 2002 by the SRF, Carrosse d’Or recipients are chosen for “innovative qualities, courage and independent-mindedness of his or her work.”

Previous recipients include last year’s winner Werner Herzog, along with Jia Zhangke, Jane Campion, Jim Jarmusch, Clint Eastwood and Alain Resnais.

The Cannes Film Festival runs May 8-19.

Absolutely elated for him! Before he dies, he’s gonna win every award possible.

One of my friends' short films is screening there, can't remember if it's in-competition or not but if so, I hope he wins something for it.
