Social media is huge when you are an adolescent; they have to keep apprised of every detail of that hormone fueled soap opera swirling around them. Their need for this constant contact will lessen as they mature and acquire more responsibilities.

They also love their video game consoles, which are connected to what? Why, that big TV in their home! Whether it's a movie, a show, or a game, people will always enjoy them on the biggest screen in the home, not the one in their hand.

I know this for a fact because I consulted my Magic 8 Ball.

Well, adults are pretty obsessed with social media also. See Facebook for proof of that.

Game wise, even that segment is under threat from mobile. They are now pushing PUBG, with Fortnite just recently receiving a mobile version. The only thing holding it back is the touchscreen joypad and buttons.

You guys take off on different directions, yes Mobile Devices will increase in use but the Big Screen is going nowhere. I have a Nephew that bought this big house in Texas with a built-in Projection Home Theater. Also have you been to the Theaters lately, they are nice with reclining chairs and plenty of room. So what I see for the future are people building their Home Theaters, or disappearing screens on the wall. The screens will either blend into the wall or used like a Picture Frame. Screens will keep getting bigger, but they are thin now, and can be put anywhere. I hope they get away from putting them on top of Fire Places, because heat and Electronics don't go together.

I think the theater model at this point is unsustainable. They are charging to much and offering to little to stay in business under its current formula. Most theaters are going to need to either drastically cut prices, price based on demand (discounting bad or cheap movies while charging a premium for franchise high demand films), sell by subscription like movie pass or drastically decrease the number of theaters in most towns. At this point if they ever run out of franchises to milk I don't see theaters staying in business. I mean at this point you can either go to the theater or you can own the movie at home a few months down the line for the same price.

Physical and digital aren't going to kill each other but big tv's/projectors and cheap physical/digital probably will kill theaters. When your customer base is shrinking and to counter act that you are raising prices to make up for that then in general that is a death spiral as its unsustainable. The same thing is happening to cable and that is where most of digital's "growth" came from (digital cable subscriptions becoming digital Netflix subscriptions)

Read the bit about the TV set. Before anyone says it, you can get this is the same with the US also.

Exactly. For every movie I saw in a theater I watched dozens on a 12" black-and-white portable. And look at me now, obsessing over black levels and digital noise reduction and original aspect ratios.

Yeah, a case could be made that home theaters might be getting a little too good relative to actual theaters but watching a ball game at home and going to a ball game are still two different experiences and there's still probably plenty of room for both.

The film industry has a long history of endeavoring to distinguish itself from the home experience. Color, widescreen, 3D, surround sound, Imax and the like were all ways in which theaters tried to give consumers something they couldn't easily replicate at home. Some of them were huge advances, some were gimmicky, some worked, some didn't but through it all theaters have survived.

Will that be the case fifty years from now? I have no idea. But I'll be 105 then so I'm not going to let it keep me up nights

In regards to the sony Ultra streaming app the bitrate will vary between 12 to 24Mb/s for 4K HDR content. Just had the response from Sony support.

Thanks for sharing the reply you received from Sony. It looks like Apple TV 4K performs better as it can average 30 Mbps according to that video review we discussed yesterday.

I'll still buy the 4K disc myself, but it looks like Apple is the leader in Digital streaming quality.

As much fun as defining the definitions of data transfer and the properties of Sony Ultra have been, it was refreshing to visit other topics. Variety being the spice of life and all that.

Who ever responded to you was using old information from 2017, because I talked to Sony Support a couple of weeks ago they said now averaging 25Mbps. I have been using it, and their Movies are Fantastic!

Disney movies aren't in 4k on iTunes because Disney and iTunes are feuding over 4k pricing and hd to uhd upgrade policys. So its not possible you watched beauty and the beast in 4k on iTunes you may have watched it in sd though its technically possible.

So you’re saying Disney does 4K on iTunes in the UK or are you joking?

Either someone was impressed by digital HD or it's bait. I suspect the later. Renting would have been through itunes US since it's not available on the UK store due to price and well it's pretty common knowledge there's no 4k titles from disney.
