Not yet. Player performing like a champ. I've only had it for a week, though, and only own 5 4k physical titles (Last Jedi, Coco, Dunkirk, Thor Ragnawtf@#$, Guardians 2). Anything goes south, I'll let you know.

I bought one of these players yesterday. Couldn't pass up the deal for it. Hopefully it was the right buy vs the Samsung 7500 for half the price.

I am slowly going insane though as I can't setup my home theater for at least a few weeks.

I apologize if this has been covered but I have a quick question: what settings offer the best picture quality for this unit? I've seen a few comments implying that the upscaling option somehow makes the picture worse (?), so I'm just curious if I should go with the Auto resolution option or fixed 4K with the upscaling turned off (I have an x700 but supposedly it isn't THAT different from an x800). Any answer (and explanation) would be much appreciated!

I picked up one of these at Target yesterday for $99, I hope it's worth it.

My problem is when I set the output resolution to auto or original and turn off the 4K upscaling, my A/V sync is off.

But when I turn on the 4K upscaling or set it to a fixed resolution of 4K, the audio is fine, but then I lose picture quality. It's not as detailed and seems out of focus. Not by a lot, but it's enough to notice when switching between upscaled 4K and original resolution.

Can anybody help me? Thanks guys!
Thoughts or opinions?

Had a few weird issues last night.

I put in the first Blu-ray disc for Doctor Who series 5 (the original 1080i US release) and the player kept saying "NO DISC" when I tried to play it. I tried another disc (Blue Eyes of the Broken Doll from the Paul Naschy Collection), and it loaded up without a problem. I then tried the Doctor Who disc again (as well as the second disc from the set) and it still said "NO DISC". I unplugged the machine for a minute and tried again and the disc finally played.

While watching the disc, I noticed that the picture seemed to jump a few frames every once in a while, usually during an edit or fast moving scene. Could that be due to the fact that the disc is 1080i? Or could it be a player or TV issue? I was watching on a 2016 LG OLED.

I know that pain. Condolences, Zoof.

What did you pay for it? Mine was about $230 after taxes and shipping and warranty.

Ok, I’ll elaborate. With my Samsung tv, when setting the output resolution to 4K or auto 2 4K upscale, yes the picture is worse. I’m actually losing detail. But when I set it to original resolution or turn off the 4K upscale, the tv does the upscale and I get beautiful picture.

Now my issue is I’m having a/v sync issues with this setting. I actually ordered the Philip 7502 4K player. Hopefully it will work better with my Samsung tv. And this issue may be a compatibility issue with my Samsung tv. It’s a UN55JU7100

I am curious to see if this alleviates your sync issue.

while it's not the quietest player, it has never failed to play anything I've put in it UHD, HD BD or DVD. also, it has the firmware update available for DV so, there is that! I use the 2 cable system and have had zero sync issues. it's connected to my TCL 55P605 4K DV tv.

keep us posted. also, not to clog up this thread, there is a 7502 thread where you can post about it if you so choose to.

There is something wrong with those Dr Who season 5 discs (and I assume its the same with S6). These were the first Dr Who sets that made it over here to the states several years ago. I'm not sure about the technical side of things, but those were BBC shows created in the UK and they botched the international release. It has something to do with Hz cycles, frames per second, or something because those discs would not play normally on my regular BD players a few years ago. They had constant judder and its -terrible-. Eventually I figured out that if I went into my PS4 settings and turned of HD playback and played the disc at 720p then the judder went away.

Someone else with more knowledge of UK vs US disc authoring could probably describe this more appropriately.

We’ll im also getting it to see if the picture improves. Because honestly, my regular Sony blu-ray shouldn’t have a better picture than my 4K blu-ray player.

Which is exactly what’s happening now

I am assuming you are talking about a standard blu ray being affected by those settings? How does a UHD disc look between the different settings you mentioned?
