I picked up a non-steelbook copy of The Fifth Element, and it plays fine. I think there might be an issue with the 4K UHD disc in the steelbook. I think another member who had the steelbook had a problem with his disc. So if you purchased the steelbook edition of The Fifth Element from Best Buy, you might want to check your disc (chapter 9 is where mine messed up, right after Bruce Willis gets hit over the head with the trophy).

The Fifth Element UHD is just a pleasure to watch. But what I love is everything it represents for the format. This movie reminds me of all the other possibilities for 4K UHD, how we can get excellent films from the 80s and the 90s restored to amazing levels of clarity we have never before seen.

Finally got around to watching this UHD. This movie is always such a f***ing blast! There's more imagination, more creativity on display in two minutes of screen time than most movies can muster in their entire length. Eric Serra's score, the costumes by Jean Paul Gaultier, Bruce Willis actually acting with every fibre of his being (those were the days
![]() Fantastic upgrade too. A big ol' detail boost - When it cuts to the President after the gun battle, I never actually noticed before that he's drenched in sweat having listened to the drama unfold over the radio. That joke always managed to pass me by on DVDs and subsequent blu-rays. My only minor quibble was the sharpening which stops this being one of my absolute fave UHDs. Just made things look a little harsher on occasion than I would have liked but overall, another winner. I freakin' love this format. |

I have gone through several pages and I could not find answer. Is the regular Blu-ray included in this release an improvement over previous releases? I'm not running 4K at this point but on some recent movies I have bought 4K releases knowing I will eventually be 4K.
Thanks! |

I have the Sony remastered 4k scan version released in 2015. If you could confirm, that would be great. I'm very happy with the version I have but if disc included with 4k release is even better I might splurge. One of my favorite movies of all time.

Unfortunately I won't be home until tomorrow. If you already have the 4K mastered disc, I can't imagine that Sony would have made a new one for the UHD (except for switching to the plain blue and white disc art they use for the Blu-Ray copies in UHD releases).

I remember watching the Superbit DVD with DTS sound on my Phillips 32" CRT back in 2002 and thinking... "WOW this is as good as it gets! This will never look better!!" Boy was I wrong. 16 years later I'm watching this on a 65" screen in HDR and what a disc! It's not quite up there with the finest Sony catalogue releases but it's damn close. I've now owned this movie on VHS, Laserdisc, DVD x2, Blu-ray X2 (remember the messed up MPEG2 disc?) and now UHD. Only major release I skipped was the Mi4k release as it was region locked.

![]() I have the remastered BD and just ordered UHD this morning. Amazon Warehouse has a couple of the Best Buy Steelbooks "like new" for just under $25. I'm not that big a fan of Steelbooks, but the artwork looks really nice and it's just a couple bucks more than the regular UHD. Really looking forward to hearing it in Atmos. ![]() |

Shoot! I don't think it was the part of the actual ad, however it was mentioned in the thread. It looks like it just dropped in price.
