I fired off a query to Umbrella last week, asking when we might see this one on the shelves.

The reply is:

The good thing about THE LAST WAVE is that Germany put out a really nice looking blu-ray a few years ago:

Watching this now....sigh!

Not sure who or what was responsible for the brand new remaster but it's not good.

A typical Umbrella encode riddled with compression artifacts & heavy, heavy DNR that results in awful motion blur from the very first scene.

Very disappointed.

Hopefully another label can do this one justice.

One of my favourite Australian films.
What the hell went wrong with this transfer?
I'm no expert but it's like every second frame has been removed :/
Weird judder. Which can be seen best, I believe around the 20 minute mark,
there's a scene with Jimmie and a cop...cop blows smoke into air. It freaking looks like it's in slow mo...I just don't understand why. Devastated.

If anyone wants to chime in with an answer....

I only got half way through it.
Will try second half tonight out of love but the problem is really disorientating
and a true let down. The film deserves better.

Damn, this release appears to just keep getting worse with every passing day...

I gotta admit, from everything posted here so far, I hope someone with the physical blu-ray release puts a word in with Umbrella to let them know how disappointing the release is.

I have no compelling reason so far to drop a single dollar down for this unless someone can confirm the problems listed above are actually a batch pressing issue as opposed to shitty encoding, mastering or authoring, or whatever the hell issue is going on with it.

Australia sucks when it comes to releasing our most important historical cinema releases. It's some pretty shameful shit when you sit down and think about it.

Like, I really dig Umbrella releases when they get it right, but for real, this is one film that deserved a hell of a lot more care afforded it than it appears it got.
