Any word on how many malls and which ones?
And will that be advertised in some way?

I think this site has a link, and hollywoodinhidef.com has the full story somewhere there w/ the lineup of malls. It's a very big tour.

Also, whipper, word of mouth works better w/ demos than w/ some commercial w/ michael imperioli.

Think Whipper's right-- the mall display will no doubt be effective, but TV ads reach more people more often (same ads every day). They'd better do both and no messing around about it.

I think the key message that Blu-ray studios and BDA CE can get out there is:

ONLY ON BLU-RAY

Make it obvious and clear to the consumer they won't get Disney, Fox, MGM, Sony or Lionsgate if they choose HD DVD.

But, I think perhaps this message is already out there in the form of new release advertising:

"Available soon on DVD and Blu-ray Disc" and even "Available soon on Blu-ray Disc and DVD"

The Q4 releases are going to be absolutely devastating to HD DVD in this regard.

Gary

There are very few malls the tour is going to compared to the number of malls. No mall in my state is getting the tour, only 18 total. See the bottom of the link.

Yeah, I've seen a couple of those. I think the latter sends a far more powerful message than the former.

The mall tour is a joke. How many of us approach booths at malls? I see one and head the other direction.

I noticed "Toshiba HD-DVD" is promoting "World Extreme Cagefighting" on VS., that will reach more people than the mall display. The mall display idea is that bad.

Well, it's not a booth, and you know it will be close to the Disney store at those malls, and they will probably have signs in those stores and have the employees reminding you to go see it (that would be f'n great!). Have you seen the picture of it? As I said, it's not just a booth or anything. They've got multiple screens on the outside playing Blu-ray content, and a seating section for demos of some blu-ray stuff (probably Cars and POTC, among others).

It will definitely attract looks and interest. I don't think it will be the greatest thing of all time, but I think it will grab people, especially parents, since it has the big "Disney" logo on the very top, and they'll want to see what it's all about just because of that.
