this is a rare example where I want to own 4 out of the 5 films on 4k, and I don't care if I skip part 2 and therefore have an incomplete series in my collection....

I'd do the same thing for Jaws 1 and 2 (skipping 3 and 4)

most every other series I would want the complete set from Star Wars to Jurassic Park to Alien (and those all have weaker films too... just not as horrendous as the titles above....)

Picked up a used copy of MI3, just for 2nd (extras) disc basically.

It's somewhat unusual to see the 2-disc release floating around.

It was only $6, so I figured it was worth that much at least.

Forgot the movie disc was weak-sauce 25GB with 640KB audio.

I like the designs of the 4K packaging.

Happy they didn't just recycle the blu-ray rerelease art.

I think of all the formidable foes, I would say the late Philip Seymore Hoffman was the best of them all. He's just maniacally confident and foreboding.

As for my choices of movies in order:

3, 4, 1, and 5 (really 1 and 5 tie for me).

[Show spoiler]I didn't forget 2, I just have a hard time forgetting some quibbles I had with the movie... Hunt's floppy hair, terribly obvious stunt doubles, the motorcycle chase sequence and how the tires "magically" change from street tires to dirt tires, and the crying antagonist.

3 > GP > RN >> 1 >>>>>>>> 2

Three is the best. Best villain, best Ethan Hunt, most drama and emotion.

I tried watching Rogue Nation last night. Had to turn it off. I know this is a "me" problem, but I just find the movie boring. It's unquestionably a better movie than MI2, but the latter is at least so ridiculous it manages to be entertaining. Kind of the Die Another Day of the franchise lol. Rogue Nation is more Tomorrow Never Dies: perfectly functional movie but does little to excite me. Oh well, they can't all be favorites.

Hahahahaaaaaa, I love Tomorrow Never Dies as well. Easily my 2nd favourite Brosnan Bond flick after the awesomeness of GoldenEye.

(OT) Sticking with the Tomorrow Never Dies theme for a second - I have a real hankering to buy that blu-ray and watch it again but what are the chances we're gonna see some UHD Bond movies to sit alongside the Mission Impossibleses on ma shelf? I know it's MGM but do we think they are they gonna man up and lavish us with crisp 4K spy action (presumably tied somehow to the release of D-Craig's latest outing, much like M:I Fallout has brought about these M:I UHDs.)

I’m sure we’ll be seeing the Bonds on UHD eventually. I’m still enjoying my collection on BD now. They are dirt cheap so you wouldn’t get hurt picking them up.

I don't think MGM can handle all of the Bond movies in UHD at once. Maybe split along boxsets between the different actors portraying Bond? Or maybe like how the Bond 50 set has the movies in three jumbo cases split between year ranges? It's just 24 movies in UHD seems like a bit of a marathon for a company that has yet to dip their toes in the UHD waters. Essentially the UHD Harry Potter collection but three of them. It's daunting.

I don't think MGM can do any of them at the moment. I forgot what's going on with the theatrical distribution rights but if/when those get picked up by a new studio or they stay at Sony, I think we'll start to see movement on those UHDs. If they're doing them in batches then my guess would be the Craig ones will come first next year, before the new one (Craig's finale) drops.

For sure. I can see them releasing them by actor. Just hope they don’t do what they did and release half then release them all.

As with Harry Potter that's exactly what I expect. Enough people buy the initial releases to lessen the cost of doing the boxset that should've come in the first place. It's how this all works.

Not sure that the fate of the future production partner has anything to do with it, IMO it's more that MGM don't have two brass farthings to rub together and have virtually given up on releasing physical media. It's not that MGM are actually releasing UHD discs and they're just holding back on Bond, they're holding back on UHD discs period.

Well I figured they'll work home media distribution into whatever deal gets worked out for theatrical. Isn't something like that why Sony got those first couple of Casino Royale releases?

Warner Bros is releasing UHD movies they've done with MGM (like the new Tomb Raider) so a future partnership might be exactly what needs to happen for Bond to come in UHD.

And it sadly probably wouldn't be Sony because I think they just lost the rights to the next Bond movie.
