I have the Criterion (DVD) but I love the packaging and booklet on this.
Couldn't decide which slip I liked most though so got a one-click (both)..

My "set" arrived today, (matching #14).
The slip boxes (and contents) are intricately beautiful, as this stupendous film deserves.
This film was nominated for 9 Academy Awards and won all nine, including Best Picture. It is damn near the epitome of perfect film-making.
I hope to watch it (again, I've had the Criterion a long time) this week-end, exposing a couple of friends to it for the first time.
I expect the PQ/AQ to be perfect, as are all weET's releases.
Impossible to rate this film too high.
On the "Spinal Tap" scale = 11/10

Please keep us updated on the PQ. I have been waiting for years for a proper release. Rightly of course it deserves a super 4k release.

Managed to plug this epic in yesterday, with a couple of friends over whom have never seen it.
I was absolutely mesmerized by the beautiful picture and stunning audio presented.

Now, I'm an old man, to be frank and wear glasses but I'm a fair judge of what looks good-better-best on my (calibrated) Plasma screen.
LE falls in the BEST category, imho.
weET did a phenomenal job putting this out in 1080p and though only in 2.0 stereo (as intended) it filled the room with wonderful sound and my KEFs can put out substantial detail when called upon.
Oh, my friends absolutely LOVED the film as well and complimented the quality of the pic and sound.
As previously mentioned, I've owned the Criterion dvd for years and this is a substantial improvement. I cannot judge against Criterion's Blu though, as I've never seen it.
Highly Recommended!!!

actually it was also mixed and released in 70mm/6-track (4.2 stereo) sound.

is the aspect ratio in it's original theatrical 2.35 framing?

I was unaware of the 4.2 mix, not sure why it was not replicated.
weET has released the Blu in 2.02:1 aspect ratio, similar to the Criterion 2.00:1
so it may be a case of utilizing what ever master produced the best chance of giving the most pleasing presentation.

thanks for the clarification regarding the aspect ratio - glad I have the Japanese edition which retains the original AR. (and the sound in 5.1) the image on the Japanese edition is okay, but not great.

but back to the sound. 2.0 sound would be the original 4-track theatrical mix replicable back as such via Dolby Pro-logic; but I find it odd that of the bluray releases this movie has had, implementing the discrete 4.2 70mm sound elements elusive.

The Japanese edition has no English subtitles, right?

So what we have is good PQ although in the wrong aspect ratio, damn...
The hunt continues, hopefully someone will release this masterpiece correctly one day and in 4k.
