Default ZOMBI 3 (Lucio Fulci, 1988) - from Severin Films, 2018

From my Cinema Arcana FB Page:

“Hell on Earth!” Yet another Eurotrash favorite’s on the way from Severin Films later this year with their upcoming Blu-Ray of Lucio Fulci’s highly-divisive ZOMBI 3 (1988)! The film follows a viral plague that spreads through the Philippines when a mercenary team steals an experimental serum innocuously named Death One and, of course, accidentally get contaminated by it. Said compound was designed to reanimate the dead, but it comes with some unfortunate side effects – like melty faces and a taste for neck meat. Meanwhile, several G.I.s and tourists become flesh for the zombie mill when they get too close for comfort. No crummy hotel, small bush or refrigerator is safe. Beware of flying heads.

Refreshingly stupid with its anything goes attitude and globs of grue to spare, ZOMBI 3 is hotly contested amongst fans of the director. Fulci himself was only responsible for part of the completed film; depending on the source, he either left for personal health reasons, or due to disagreements with the producers over the direction of the finished project. Regardless, Bruno Mattei stepped in to help complete the film along with scripter Claudio Fragasso, and the result is a schizo mess that doesn’t make much sense, but moves so damn fast you won’t care. No word on specs for Severin’s release yet, but I imagine it’ll best the currently available options in terms of extras and quality.

Not that this is the only slab of prime Eurotrash Severin have on the way in 2018 – they’re also working on Fragasso’s gleefully gory ZOMBIE 4: AFTER DEATH (1989) and Mattei’s unabashed rip-off amalgam SHOCKING DARK (1989), along with Joe D’Amato’s gut-muncher ANTHROPOPHAGOUS (1980) and its pseudo-sequel, ABSURD (1981). It’s going to be a hell of a year.

Stoked to hear this. The theme for this film is INCREDIBLE Italian fun.

Nice. I almost bought the 88 Films release a few times but kept holding off.

While I hope this has a better, less DNR riddled transfer than the 88 Films disc, Severin releasing this kinda dashed those hopes, sadly.

It feels like I've been waiting forever for Anthrophagous. I'll likely be grabbing all titles mentioned at some point. Any idea when these are likely to see release? Are we looking at a month or two wait, or a 4-5 month wait?

'Godawful' doesn't even cut it - this is one of the best examples of inept movie making, lazy to the core

is it as bad as 'Sodoma's Ghost' that by far reeks of Fulci's worst in my book.

Severin always get the one ups over 88 transfer wise, it will be worth the wait. Hope they do a limited slip.

Given Severin's recent Italian titles, I have a strong feeling that it will be a new master.

I'll happily double dip for a better transfer that stacks up with Arrow's Zombi 2 restoartion and the Italian 4K restoration of the Argento cut of Dawn of the Dead.

...maybe Severin will also do Zombi 4: After Dead and Zombi 5: Killing Birds as well?

Zombie 4 : After Death is coming from Severin, too.
Furthermore, some interview segments of Zombi 3 and 4 have already been updated at Freak-O-Rama website.

88's slipcover for Zombi 3 simply can't be beat. It's made of some kind of soft felt material - almost feels like human skin . It's one of only a handful of slips I've protected with a poly sleeve. Transfer-wise, I'm sure Severin will one-up 88 in that department. I wonder if Severin has found better source materials for the opening segment. IIRC 88 used a tape master for that sequence and it looks wonky. I thought the rest of the film looked OK considering the film and the budget but I always welcome upgrades in PQ.

Hopefully they will include all the extras and the audio commentary from the Shriek Show DVD. Would also love to see Killing Birds on Blu too.

yeah, I was watching the trailer for Zombi 3 and it looks really silly with some okay gore effects. 'Soloma's Ghost' though looks like Fulci just gave up on hiring anyone with a talent in the special effects makeup department.
