I doubt that the drop will be enough to create clickbait with. Of ALL the people in my social circle, family, and co-workers, only 3 other than myself have seen it. Everyone else is saying they’ll try to get tickets for the 2nd weekend.

Do you have to see Black Panther first before seeing Avengers Infinity War ? Didn't see it in the cinema and it comes out on Blu-ray on the 11th of June in the UK, which is way too late.

Not really. It does set up the Wakanda scenes & characters, and is a great movie, but you won't be confused if you miss it.

Yeah, I'd say Black Panther and Doctor Strange are nice to have a little extra background, but not really needed.

The previous Avengers, Guardians, Civil War, and Ragnarok are the ones to see before Infinity War (with those films you will be introduced to all the major characters and storylines that play into Infinity War)

Basically, what I’d argue, is that if you just wanna catch the bare basics, watch only the films with appearances by Infinity Stones. That very truncated order would have it:
Captain America: The First Avenger
The Avengers
Thor: The Dark World
Guardians of the Galaxy
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Captain America: Civil War
Doctor Strange
Thor: Ragnarok
Avengers: Infinity War

All you really need to know about Black Panther is that Black Panther is the king of Wakanda, and that country has soom cool technology. Both of these things are basically reintroduced in Infinity War. You'll miss out on some references but nothing super important.

I very much disagree with Doctor Strange. He's too important of a character in this movie to miss out on his backstory.

No, not at all really. If you know who T'challa/Black Panther is and know what Wakanda is... you are fine.

The most important films to watch for INfinity Wars are:

Avengers
Captain America Winter soldier/Civil War
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2
Doctor Strange
Thor Ragnarok

You will be all set with these.

I'm not sure of why but I think I preferred seeing the movie not in IMAX. It really doesn't need that extra head space and wasn't worth the extra ticket money imo.

Oh man, what a movie. These things still tend to creak under their own weight with all the different characters on their own storylines but there so many feels attached to each one (not just sadness but some proper lols as well) that it's worth the clunkyness, and such things tend to get evened out on subsequent rewatches anyway once you get used to the rhythm of a film. So much goodness...

Can anyone tell me if the aspect ratio is expanded in IMAX, sort of like how Beauty and the Beast was last year. I already saw it in XD, but if you get more picture in IMAX I definitely wanna see it.

Yeah, you do. The film was shot entirely on IMAX cameras.

I guess the thing with Doctor Strange is you pretty much get an introduction to his character and the time stone in the film anyway (since he first encounters Tony and Banner and gives them a bit of exposition), and didn't find his backstory beyond that to really play into the film. Plus, if one watched Ragnarok (which leads into this film more directly) you do also get to briefly see the character and his powers there.

5/5

Just got back from seeing it, excellent movie.

I only like a handful of the previous Marvel Studios movies, like Guardians and Iron Man. Most leave me cold, but there is something special about Infinity War. Really well put together, and makes you want to watch more.

The more I think about the highwire act of action/comedy this movie sustained the more impressed I am. Can't understand pop-media's griping about the deaths or that it isn't Marvel's G.O.A.T. film, well worth the 10 years build up and can't wait for the conclusion next year! 9/10

A lot of people have a problem with the comedy in recent Star Wars and Marvel movies. I have zero problem with it, if fact I enjoy it very much, but I have noticed the more I rewatch them, the less overt the comedy seems.

I have an issue with the comedy in much of recent MCU films as thery frequently set up a serious moment and have it under cut by what to me feels like a cheap joke. The exception where this worked for me was Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (it probably helps that the film is a comedy with weird characters and that they reestablish a bigger threat directly after such moments).

As for star wars I think some of the humor worked in TFA ("you need a pilot") but TLJ I found to have the same issue but even worse then the MCU. Where they set up something serious then immediately undercut it with a joke, which makes caring at all about what is happening decrease very quickly.

Most of this was removed from Infinity War which I was glad to see, there was still some humour but it was sprinkled in more evenly and not to the excess some of the more recent films have had it present.
