Chris and I both work in the industry. I am a senior technical editor and reviewer for Sound and Vision magazine. Chris has his own AV website, referencehometheater.com and also writes for The Wirecutter.com.

It seems YouTubers also receive review copies for their channels, not even that "big" of channels either, might I add.

The audio is par for the course with Disney. I had to watch about 10 dB higher than my usual listening level and even with that (full reference) it felt unbalanced. There are moments of low, low bass (usually the music, not the sound effects) and dialogue sounds fine, but the rest of the track feels anemic and flat. I was also underwhelmed by the Atmos mix, which did a decent job with surrounds but almost no sense of atmosphere or directional effects above.
Cheers Kris. As mentioned above the opening scene was so dim in the 2K projection I saw that I could hardly see what was going on, and I'm not exaggerating. That the UHD brings it up a bit is a good thing.

Yet another example of why most theater projectors suck.

Why can't Disney take a clue from Warner, Sony, Paramount, Universal and Fox studios for sound mixes?

Their sound mixers should listen to Blade Runner 2049.

First Disney killed their 3D Blus here in North America, and now they're killing their 3D sound mixes.
They used to deliver high caliber 3D pictures...PIXAR, and superior sound too.
What's happening!

I think Disney just wants to get rid of physical media as quick as possible.

This is Disney Home Video's fault - this isn't the sound mixers fault, this is someone at DHV meddling with the original mixes and downmixing them - for some reason both Pixar and Marvel studios have no problem with this either

Yep, that scene was so bad at the theater I made a mental note for when the disc arrived. So much better at home.

Audio mixes are bad even for cinematic releases. Unless it is IMAX or cinema people raise the volume to higher levels, audio mixes have the same issues as the home releases.

Actually 'Age of Ultron's (IMAX-Laser) 12-channel mix was far and away superior over the Dolby Atmos mix - Marvel's sound design teams are flat across the board pedestrian and inconsistent. Disney's movies are totally hit or miss lately, in how effectively Atmos object based mixing will be implemented.

Again, if the sound really is such a huge problem, why don't any of you call Disney up and ask them to fix it in the future?
