Same here! Although I'm tempted to say I would prefer Sony. We already know that some new special features have been commissioned and via Sony it would definitely be cheaper, come with digital copy and possibly even a true 4k release...

I think you have Obsession confused with Sisters - I'm pretty sure Obsession is still region free.

RE: Candyman

There's a very real possibility the 4K scan is being completed for an overseas licensee.

Good news first: The last release was featuring a German VoD master with original text blurred and new (German) text superimposed. We've already fixed this and acquired the proper int'l master. Nice side effect: It's a few generations fresher than the current release as well (less grain, defects).

The films past is a little bit troubled, being a Polygram Filmed Entertainment title. Originally licensed to Sony for 25 for distribution it's now come back to Universal. This means the material situation is a little bit special as the only unrated source was a German VHS master produced by a company that no longer has the rights.

We've already enquired with Sony, but this might take some time and we've got no idea if a) the print was archived or b) the VHS master (open matte, full frame, SD only) was archived.

So before we continue and, worst case, only have the unrated shots (just a handful, but hey... still unrated) as a bonus section...

Does someone know of a source for such unrated version? Maybe it's been screened at some festival? Maybe some fan owns a 35mm print?

Again, we're also checking labs and vaults, but it can't hurt so say what we're after so please spread the word.

Thanks!

Does anyone know if a message board here exists for American horror titles released in other regions but not Region A? I found out only a few weeks ago that the Urban Legend sequels are on blu-ray in Australia. I would like to see a list of what other titles of US horror genre have been released on blu-ray so far exclusively in the overseas market.

I don't believe The Keep has had a legitimate U.S. release on DVD. There are a lot of bootlegs. There are also some Blu-ray bootlegs, which have achieved a nearly mythical status, floating around.

I don't think there's a definitive list. Different regions have different Blu-ray options. I've bought Blu-rays from AmazonDE, AmazonIT, AmazonES, AmazonFR, and AmazonUK. Australia has a lot of horror titles not currently available in the U.S; the Urban Legend Trilogy, Mothman Prophecies, Beastmaster, and No Escape, which is coming soon. Germany is also another region that has a lot of titles. Your best bet is to search for the film you're looking for on this site, and it will tell you if it's available, and in what region. Spain has Deepstar Six, the Witches, and Graveyard Shift. Germany has Very Bad Things, Strange Days, Nightwatch, American Werewolf in Paris, House on Haunted Hill. France has Necronomicon and Flight 7500. Italy has the Jacket. Those are just off the top of my head. Get a region free player (if you don't already have one) and go to town. Sometimes the best option is to just start exploring.

I've been wanting to replace my non-anamorphic DVD of An American Werewolf in Paris for a long time, even with a digital HD copy if one were available, but I had no idea that it had been released on Blu-ray. Diabolik has it in stock, so I placed an order. How is the AV quality of that release?

I think it's very decent. I know it doesn't get much love these days, but I remember seeing it in the theatre, and it has that great post-Scream 90s horror feel to it, which wasn't a great time for horror, but still interesting and representative of a certain nostalgia if one were there to experience it. There are a couple different editions on Blu-ray. I first owned a Dutch release, but when the German mediabook came out, I had Diabolik special order some.

I was 12 when Scream came out, so the post-Scream horror movies were some of the first horror movies I got to see in theaters. I don't know who in the U.S. has the rights to An American Werewolf in Paris now -- probably Lionsgate -- but I doubt we will see it released here any time soon. The version that Diabolik has in stock is a steelbook, but I think it's the same as the mediabook release but without the DVD.

I was 7 or 8 around the time Scream out on home video and even then, something about that film's style of horror (as well as those that came out in the wake of its release) rubbed me the wrong way.

I have been doing that but I was hoping maybe there’s a forum specifically with a list of other region exclusives to make things easier. I completely forgot about the Urban Legend films until I saw someone mention about an Australian release of the whole trilogy a few weeks ago on this thread.

Generally, this is great advice.

But I do want to point out that, unfortunately, there are some titles here in the database that aren't linked to their "film"s. They're findable if someone does a search under Blu-ray in the country in which they were released, or sets the Blu-ray search option to "All Countries" though.

Also, not all editions get entered into the database. Ideally they would, but for whatever reason the couple/few people who (I think) are in charge of that miss them sometimes. There are others, like me, who sometimes look around for stuff that might have been missed, but we're just regular members of this site, who are trying to be helpful. If we don't enter something then maybe someone else will, but at other times not.

I took a little time on Saturday and entered 10 German titles that weren't in the database, for example. Including this one, which gets released in less than 2 weeks and as far as I know is the first Blu-ray release of the title anywhere in the world:

However, just about all of us can contribute if we want to. Try to link up those Blu-ray's (or DVD's, iTunes, etc.) to their films. Fill out details on releases that we own, that don't have them in the system yet. Or even add entirely new releases. There's usually a learning curve, but the more of us that contribute, then the more useful the database and site are to everyone.

An interesting thought. That said, Sony generally conduct their own restorations, and I'm not aware of them doing so specifically for the purpose of an overseas release by an independent label. I have to think it was done with a mind to a US release, either by Scream or Sony themselves.

Might be an idea to ask the Turbine rep on that thread, perhaps he could clarify things.

Unfortunately all those three are bootleg releases coming from Resen and not properly licensed from the rightsholders.

I'm thinking about picking up the new release of Ninja 3, do I need to see Enter the Ninja or Revenge of the Ninja to get what's going on in NINJA 3 ?

Correct, most of the Spanish releases are ripped from somewhere else, and though they are legitimate HD scans of the films, they are not properly licensed from the studios.

No you do not. They are just sequels in name only.
