Good question, I could see if he were the leader of the Avengers, but he isn't. What exactly makes Cap the leader and not Tony? Like the scene in AoU when he says that Cap is the leader but he pays for and creates everything. Why isn't Tony the group leader?

Because Captain America has experience leadership and strategy skills in battle. That's why he is the leader of The Avengers.

Aside from telling everyone what to do at the end of The Avengers it doesn't feel like he is the leader imo. I dunno, maybe it is just me.

I guess it's because Robert Downey Jr. has a bigger presence as an actor. So in a way, you can see Robert Downey Jr. leading this franchise. But character and story wise, Captain America being the leader make perfect sense.

Tony was always the de facto leader of Movie Avengers, he just wasn't always a very good one. Cap has pretty much always had better ideas but Tony's flashier.

That moment between Tony and Thanos sticks out like a sore thumb to me, I hope they resolve it in Avengers4. The dynamic between Ironman and Captain A has been a long standing issue, and I wish they had had the cajones to kill off one of them (Tony) in the last film, but all the major multipicture Avengers survived conveniently. Loved the film, but it could have been just a tad more blood thirsty

I still don't see what relevance Tony brings to Thanos, though. It is possible that since Thanos can telepathy read minds, he probably knew that Tony was waiting for him. But still, they should have addressed it right then and there.

Either Loki told Thanos about Stark during A1 with their little talks or Thanos was popping in and out after Wanda showed him the future of destroying the Avengers. Stark did say Thanos was in his head for five years in IW.

Which makes sense, since Thanos has telepathic abilities in the comics. Not as strong as Professor X's, but still.

There's this mystical thing in the Marvel universe called "radio waves". So if you go on live tv and say "I am Iron Man", it keeps spreading out into the universe forever.

Uh... no? Tony has had severe anxiety and PTSD since the New York attack. He knew whoever Loki was working for would be back, and stronger than ever. He's been working to try and beef up earths defenses, and panicking over his friends dying, ever since that day.
