Spend the money to see this movie in IMAX 3D. Nearly the entire movie was shot with IMAX cameras and it is full screen the entire time. It also looks fantastic in 3D.
Not just "nearly". The whole movie was filmed on IMAX cameras. Although some will debate whether that actually means anything with digital, but I think it does, having seen movies like Guardians 2 or Doctor Strange in IMAX which were all digital, but the difference between standard digital footage and IMAX was still quite noticeable when those scenes changed, and not just in the aspect ratio.

If anything, I have more of a problem with the cinematography in MCU movies lately than the fact that they were shot in digital.

For some, I'd agree, but for Infinity War I thought the cinematography was great. I think they've been getting better more recently than their earlier digital movies. Guardians 2 and Thor 3 looked great. Spider-man and Black Panther I didn't find that visually impressive except for a few shots.

It was a bit better in Infinity War. But still, some of the VFX were off. Like the scenes with Banner in the Hulkbuster. That was distracting. Also the other problem I think is Marvel Studios relies way too much on green screen.

I wasn't 100% certain if it was 100% IMAX shot or not.

I definitely think IMAX in 3D pretty much blows everything else out of the water, with the only exception being 70mm IMAX. With the dual projector setup it is so bright and looks amazing.

I popped my head into a 2D Dolby Cinema room twice after watching a movie in (fullscreen) IMAX 3D and I really don't know what all the fuss is about, looked like a downgrade to me. But hey, fancy seats.

I think you're overreaching with that "some of the VFX" line. There was like, one shot at the end when Banner's head was out in the hulkbuster that looked bad. I didn't notice any other effects in the movie that looked bad.

Never said bad, just an uneven look to it is all. You know, some scenes look fine and some scenes look obviously green screen. I don't know. I thought the movies Phase One and Two looked better in my opinion.

What are the chances IW will get an IMAX aspect ratio BD (2D) release?

Not good and most folks don't seem to care.

It wouldn't surprise me either way. 1.85:1 is the closest to the IMAX standard of 1.90:1 but a lot of 1.90:1 IMAX movies end up at 1.78:1 on Blu-ray...of course, they might just give us 2.40:1.

Most Marvel movies are 2.40:1 but Avengers 1 is 1.78:1 and Ant-Man is 1.85:1 so who knows...

I think the 4K release would benefit most from the expanded aspect ratios considering how most 4K sets are pretty big so there might be a chance.

Wait, what? Guardians 2 wasn't shot on IMAX. At all. They used the 8K VistaVision RED Dragon and just opened up the mattes for the "IMAX" scenes. As for Doctor Strange they shot predominantly on the large format Alexa 65, using XT for any high-speed work and Super 35 for the early Kathmandu stuff. Ragnarok was also shot mostly on the Alexa 65.

As we know, the "IMAX digital" cameras are basically an Alexa 65 with an IMAX sticker slapped on them which is what makes the ERMAGERD IT WUZ SHOT ENTIRLY UN EYEMAX hype around Infinity War so nonsensical. I'm quite sure it looks fantastic, but true IMAX it is not and removing the letterbox mattes for the whole movie is a rather cynical move as they could've done the exact same thing on any of the movies I've just mentioned.

Eh, hype machine gonna hype.

Was thinking that what we need is Ron Fricke (Baraka, Samsara) to make a new doc using IMAX cameras. I'd pay good money to see something like that in 3D!

Here's a question now that Thor can portal anywhere . What would happen if he attached the time stone to Stormbreaker ? Would he then be able to portal in time too ?

It might be a thing, we'll just have to wait and see in A4

Initially I really wanted the IMAX aspect on Blu-ray, but after seeing it in theaters I don't anymore. I saw it on a regular screen a few days later and preferred it that way, don't know why but I did.
