Default Nick's brand new HT (and car now)

So I've been kind of lurking around here for a while now. I found this website about half way through my designing of my HT setup. But to start from the beginning.

My name is Nick. I live in Michigan. I'm a recent grad of WMU (April '08) with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. I work in Holland, MI now, where I grew up. I recently closed on a new house, and have owned it for just over two weeks as of right now. I uploaded my pictures to my HT Album. Check them out if you wouldn't mind, and feel free to give constructive criticism or any other comments for that matter. Thanks guys, and I love the website, I'm officially addicted.

All of the equipment is brand new.
Samsung LNT4671F 46" LCD
Denon 2809CI AV Receiver with Ipod Dock
PS3 80GB
Xbox 360 Elite
Monster HDP1800
Motorolla DCH3416 HD DVR Cable Box
Klipsch Speakers all around
B-3 Fronts
C-2 Center
S-2 Surrounds
Sub-12
All monoprice wires and cables.

When I moved into this house this room was kind of a smurf blue. Thanks to one coat (yes only one coat, no primer) of Benjamin Moore paint, the room is now "Soul Chocolate" and has a nice warm feeling to it. I had to fish the wires for the rear surrounds myself. My dad helped me out quite a bit, but was questioning me the whole time. He kept on saying "I hope this is all worth it!" In the end, when it was done, calibrated and everything else, we watched a movie. He was so surprised by the incredible sound, and the sweet picture. My mom was even impressed!! and that's saying something. But anyways, I am definitely loving it. Let me know what you think! Thanks!

Thanks for the compliments guys. I'm with you on the bigger tv. I am also planning on getting floor standing speakers. There is a little back story behind both though.

I told you that I just bought this house two weeks ago. Before that, I was very close to buying a different house about two and a half months before this one. So I was watching for sales and closeouts for stuff for that house. The room that would have been used in that house for the HT had a ton of windows looking out west over a man-made lake/pond, hence the LCD. And the way the room would have been set-up, a 46" would have been just right. The room also only would have allowed for use of bookshelf speakers, it had a ton of built-in bookshelfs on either side of where the tv would have been.

Turns out the bank must not have wanted to sell me that house, cause they just stopped talking to me. So I started looking for a different house, but by this time, I'm past the date to return the previously purchased tv and speakers! So I had to work with these items. Then I found this house, which I actually like more, and required less work on my part to move in. With a different seating position now, I definitely need a bigger tv, and want floorstanding speakers. I just have to cool my spending for a while, and maybe in a year get a bigger tv, and this time it would probably be a bigger plasma! considering the room only has the one small window looking east, which is easy to cover up too.

Sorry for the long post guys, just a little bit that I wanted to get off my chest from frustration of working with that bank.

Anyways, thanks so much for the compliments! I'm very happy as well with how the paint turned out. Everybody doubted me when I told them what I wanted to do, but they all love it now when they see it in person. lol

Thanks leov, and thanks for the rating too. I'm extremely pleased with what I have right now, just a little disappointed with the proportions of how it turned out. It will be at least a year or two I think before I make any major changes. Unless I find a deal on floorstanding speakers, then the bookshelf speakers will move upstairs somewhere. I've got too many addictions already, I don't know if I can afford to go overboard with this one as well, haha. I'll have to post pictures of my car too sometime.

Potential? What would you do differently? I'm open to suggestions for decorating at least for now. I spent enough on the room already, everything that's in there now is going to stay pretty much as is for quite a while I think. Thanks.

How about in the future you drop a projection screen in front of that setup. I am just now getting into the front projector game and will have a motorized screen fall IFO my current setup. I plan to use the projector for Movies only and my other TV for Cable, and Gaming. Looks like Light is not an issue and would suit a nice big screen.

I meant the unfinished room. it has poetential. as for you room, Im not a big fan of synergy line.
klipsh reference line would have been nice. the wall with you setup, seems too small. I guess thats the only place considering the doors are in the way everywhere else huh?

I see what you mean with the proportions, this is a HUGE room. So im curious to see what kind of car you got, i spend too much on mine too. Wheels, tires, suspension, AUDIO.....adds up quickly

Oh, yeah, I'm looking forward to doing something with that room, but that'll probably be a couple years down the road. I have about 20 different ideas going through my mind of what to do and how to do it. Either way, if I'm here for a long time, there will be a dedicated HT room eventually. I thought maybe you had a good idea or something that I could build off for something to do to make the setup better, that's all. But yeah, the way it's set-up right now was the only logical setup that I saw in my mind, and believe me, I considered everything, I liked this the most though.

Yeah, actually the room is around 20' x 20' give or take a little.

As far as the car goes, I have a 1999 Chevy Camaro Convertible. Around 52,000 miles on it. That year came with the LS1, and I've done LT headers, SLP Loudmouth, and cold air intake for HP performance (oh and it was professionally tuned). I've also done anti roll bars, SFC's, STB, lower control arms, and a couple other things I'm probably missing. It holds the road extremely well, I've scared a lot of people with it already. It was repainted last year, in the Victory Red stock color, with a couple minor body modifications (redone front bumper, and a little extra room made for the rear wheels/tires). I've got 17" x 9.5"/11" polished Torq Thrust II rims, with Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas 275's/315's. The interior has been rodone with two-tone leather seats, as well as the door panels which really sets it off. It's more of just a fun car built for the street. I don't intend to compete on the track or anything, but just enjoy it. I will be taking it to the track this year to see what she runs, but that will probably be the last time as I think it's quicker than the specified time for a convertible without a rollcage, and I'm not doing that.

I think that is all that's done to it right now, but I've got a ton of audio stuff sitting at home waiting for me to put in this spring. A Pioneer Premier HU, Boston Acoustics Speakers all around, a JL Audio Amp, and a pretty sweet HU mount from this website. I decided I wasn't going to do subs because of the difficulty in working around the convertible top. With the top down and subs in the trunk you just don't hear as much of it. And I only drive it in the summer when it's not raining, so pretty much the top is always down when I drive it, so I saw the sub as fruitless, and rolled that money into the other items.

So yeah, I've spent a little bit of time and money on that too. It's in storage at my dad's house right now for the winter, but I'll get some good pics this spring when I get her out and post them for sure.

I know some people wouldn't like it, but I love this car. So do the females, and all my friends too. And actually the only reason I have this is cause some young girl blew a red light and totaled my last car. That was a 1984 Trans Am with a swapped in fuel injected 350, headers and the whole works too. Oh well, I think I like this car more anyways now.

What kind of car do you have leov36? I'd be interested in seeing some pics if you have some readily available.

I posted a couple pics of my car in my album for you to check out for now. Oh, and it also has a shorty antenna now instead of that obscene factory one.
