He's saying that critics are only liking this one because the director is a woman.

For the second paragraph, again, I haven’t seen the video and I’m not interested in watching it until I’ve seen the movie first. It seems like they’re poking at people who made comments about the movie that might be interpreted as sexist based on the comments and reactions here? Again, can’t form my personal opinion on them or the movie until I watch the video, and I don’t want to “take a sides” until I’ve seen the film and I can judge it myself and then the comments. Critics’ reviews are simply encouraging me to watch the film but I’m not saying that it is actually a good movie; I’m hoping that it will be though. I do remember seeing the moviegoer’s obnoxious voicemail message since it played before Ingrid Goes West. They never revealed the identity of the person and TBH that person should be banned from theaters. I’m one of those people that gets very annoyed when people use cellphones during a movie at the cinema. It interrupts your attention and pulls you out of the movie, and I wish more theaters would enforce that no-cellphone rule like Alamo Drafthouse. Based on the voicemail itself, the person who left it was offended because she wasn’t allowed to, but wanted to be able to freely use her cellphone during the movie when she could have simply stepped outside to do so instead of interrupting the experience for everyone. I do not agree with everything the company stands for but I agree with a lot of what they believe the movie experience should be, and a no-cellphone rule is completely, 100% reasonable.
The video comment wasn't directed towards you. It was in addition to answering your original comment. Let me clarify my comment in reference to your comment. I never said it was or wasn't a good sign. I was merely pointing out that it's extremely rare that an exploitation film would get this much praise from mainstream critics given their biases towards the genre and I wouldn't put too much stock into it because of said praise. I'm not saying that the film's bad or good as I'll wait for the Blu-Ray to check it out because it just looks like the same old thing.

As for your comment on a good movie experience free from irritations, I'm with you there.

I’m pretty sure those commenters have more of a backbone than you give them credit for. If not, perhaps they shouldn’t dish it if they can’t take it?

That seems to be what you're saying without actually saying it with your "Why are they praising this one?" Otherwise what are you trying to say? Maybe this is just a good one? And to be fair being directed by a woman does make this one feel less icky. I won't have to feel gross for liking it. I imagine that does help with people enjoying it, on top of it being stylish and well-made.

I was asking that question literally. I wasn't looking to imply anything. I was actually asking because I'm not quite seeing it here. It looks too similar to others in the genre despite the cinematography.
It reminds me too much of an ozploitation film called Fair Game.

Ah. Well there's obviously something good here. If you like these kinds of movies it seems really well done. Better than most in the genre. Just being well-made can make an otherwise tired formula feel fresh.

This looks great. Can't wait to watch it on digital later today. But why can't we ever get one of these rape/revenge films with a male rape victim? Switch it up.

Probably because a lot of women can't wrap their head around a man being raped without "wanting it," and male rape is routinely played for laughs in comedies. The sad thing is that people probably wouldn't take it seriously. Imagine a male rape victim going John Wick on a bunch of women? Thats hard to sell.

It could be a guy getting raped by another group of men? Happens more than you think. There was a recent news story in this hick area near me of high school upperclassmen "hazing/raping" younger boys in an often unsupervised boys changing room. The victims said it was going on for years.

Caged Men (released on blu-ray by Code Red) goes there. I'm sure there's more, but yeah, not seen in movies too often.

That sounds like a very dark, hard to watch NC-17 film. That could work.

The subject has been actually dealt with before. It was covered in an episode of Law & Order: SVU https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0629717/and someone did a short film about it called She Was Asking For It https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1082873/

It can be done because there are so many dynamics at play that can be tapped into but it's probably gonna have to be done independently because I guarantee that Hollywood's too spineless to even put in the effort and too PC on top of that.

I get what your saying but none of those examples are feature films. The best example of male rape taken seriously I can think of is in the movie The Kite Runner.
