Terrible film. Don't blind but without seeing it first. Hopefully the new film they are planning will be better (can't be any worse). The dark days of bad comic book movies.

McFarlane wrote the new one himself and will direct. Is aiming for a horror rather than superhero with it. Blumhouse is involved too.

Subjective.

Great film in my opinion, and pretty darkly comedic, been looking forward to getting this

A 'Great' film, come on. If you said it's not that good but I enjoy it i could buy that, but 'great'?

Imported this last year. I still have a certain amount of nostalgia for it, but it isn't really a good film. The tone is all over the place, everyone seems to be acting in completely different films from one another and the effects were patchy even for the time, ranging from pretty good (Spawn's cape still looks pretty cool) to downright amateurish (any of the hell sequences).

Like I said, it still has a certain amount of nostalgia for me (though I wonder why sometimes), but I can't imagine a first time viewer getting much out of this.

As BigNickUK said it is his opinion.

The comment " If you said it's not that good but I enjoy it i could buy that, but 'great'?" doesn't really make any sense.

Yes it does - I expect we all have films we like for whatever reason that we know aren't great. You'd be a pretty boring person if you only liked acknowledged classics. Just because you have a soft spot for a particular film doesn't by definition mean you think it's a great film.

I took a look at your post agin after reading this and see that I misunderstood* the meaning of what you said. I thought at the time you were telling BigNickUK that his opinion was simply wrong but now I believe you were only questioning the level of his enthusiasm for the film.

As to the above post, I agree. I have a few, not just one. I also like and dislike many of those "acknowledged classics".

* So, in actual fact your comment didn't make sense - just only to me at the time.

For what it's worth I prefer Spawn to Deadpool though objectively I agree Deadpool would be considered the better film.

Some of the FX in this are great still, obviously a lot of it is really bad but I do have a soft spot for 90's CGI no matter how dated it looked. They were really pushing the envelope with some stuff. This movie had some of the first big superhero fight using heavy CG.

The thing with Spawn is not necessarily the really bad visual effects, but the story telling of it. This is one of the few films where I would champion a reboot because the film has not aged well at all in all aspects.

Get somebody like Yorgis Lanthismos, you know, somebody who won't compromise and has a strong sense of vision and then team him with a decent up and coming actor like Daniel Kaluuya in the main role and you've got a promising adaptation that will at least be interesting to see. I mean, the contents of the source material is so dark, so different that I am surprised more and more producers are not jumping on it.

Exactly. I remember this as an enjoyable one watch blockbuster. Good fun but no intention of ever seeing it again. There are far worse comicbook films out there, even recent ones such as Deadpool, Fantastic 4 reboot (admittedly that was the studios fault) and Suicide Squad coming to mind.

Was Spawn a blockbuster? I thought it was only moderately successful at the box office?

What didn't you like about Deadpool - if you can explain without spoilers because I haven't seen it yet? Just curious as you the first person I have encountered who didn't like it with the exception of a few people who didn't like the violence.

Sure opinions are subjective but I think anyone claiming Spawn is better than Deadpool would have to admit they're swimming against the tide with that claim.

Irrelevant because an opinion is an opinion regardless of how many disagree.

Fnord Prefect doesn't like Deadpool and preferred Spawn therefore he cannot consider Deadpool to be the better film.

I literally said that opinions are subjective in my post, son. I know you've come out of nowhere to post in every thread but please don't just repeat, thanks.

Sure I preferred Spawn to Deadpool, but that's kind of like saying I preferred Star Trek Into Darkness to Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country or Carry On Cruising to Carry On Loving if you get my drift.

I simply didn't find Deadpool very funny or entertaining, it's not a film I hated or found boring I just found it mediocre and didn't understand the love it seemed to get.
