Default Better film than critics say because of 3d

Got it from Amazon Germany. The IMDB score was 5.5 and Metacritic was 30. This is a fun movie with innovative 3d. Game Of Thrones fans should like it. It's going to be one disk I show people how much fun 3d can be, and I have over a hundred 3d disks. Forget the critics on this one.

I just got this (Seventh Son), Beowulf, Final Destination 5 3D, and Noah 3D from Amazon Italy. Hope it is worth importing these in but sounds like they are. They are so much more on Amazon US or ebay... it's crazy. I paid about $50 for all 4 of them shipped to the US.

Yes, enjoy. The 3D in Seventh Son exceeded my expectations for the action scenes, with stronger 3D. There are some medium 3D shots and a few mild shots near the lake home, but generally a solid 3D conversion. Watch for the waterfall scene in 3D.

My order for this from amazon.it got canceled- they say they don't know if they can get it anymore. Are they just impatient or is it actually getting scarce? It's on sale at amazon.de too (though not as cheap), so I'll try again, but that seemed weird.

Hi Everett,

Was touched seeing the Mexican version saying "hi Jo" to me. Korea didn't!

Amazon now has the U.S. 3D release on pre-order, $50, but no release date. I suppose it's un-cancelled.

If you're talking about this I wouldn't hold your breath.

You're better off importing this from anywhere it's available, all 3D editions are English-friendly and region free.

Got home late this evening, just time for a short movie. Had this one sitting on the shelf for several years and had had little to no motivation to watch it because, for some reason, I assumed it was just a generic, dark and boring fantasy snooze fest, with a bland 3D conversion. It felt like a good time to finally tick its box and forget about it...

I am a idiot.

It may have been generic, but it wasn't dark and was very breezy, enitrely enjoyable nonsense.

More to the point, the 3D was fantastic, way better than I'd imagined. Really bold and impressive 3D right from the beginning, and often uesed to massively enhance the view (especially those high up shots...)

So, generic fantasy fare maybe but, for 3D fans, a definite and strong recommendation.

Thanks for the review.

When it was "El Septimo Hijo" and available on Hamilton, I remember it getting a meh rating for the 3D. Not by me, as I haven't seen it, but I'm in much the same boat as you were because the notion that the 3D would be bland is why I haven't.

I’ve never heard of this before, but you and the two trailers have sold me. Just grabbed the German release off eBay. Can’t wait!

I think I just assumed that, because I didn't know anything at all about the film, that it had been a really minor release, that made me think that it would have had a cheap and very unimpressive 3D conversion. I really should have learned not to make assumptions by this point in my life..!

I do hope you enjoy the film and, more especially, its 3D as much as I did. I'm not saying it's a great movie in any way: It's the type of thing the Internet haters would rip to shreds (they very possibly did; I'll have a quick look*) - but these are often the kind of films I have a lot of fun with - particularly when their 3D is as nice as it is here (Gods of Egypt I think being the ultimate example).

I often compare this sort of film to the Harryhausen classics: Those movies had scripts and performances that were, really, not that great. But people (me included) love them.

*Just looked: There are fewer reviews out there that I was expecting, but I had a look at Mark Kermode's. For those who don't know him, Kermode is the UK's (rabidly anti 3D) most high profile film critic. It's fair to say he can be a professional movie hater, which is something his fans love about him. Personally, I think he's a bit of a ******. Anyway, unsurprisingly, he hated this film! (Although I did, unfortunately, totally agree with what he said about Bridges' zinger...). He didn't see it in 3D - if he had I'm quite certain he would have said the 3D was pointless and awful, because I've heard him say that of other films with good 3D all too often. Like I say, he can be a complete ****** (British word, begins with a W...)

This topic (and therefore, this Title) had completely escaped me until today! I've completed my research i.e. read this forum, and duly purchased it via amazon.de for the princely sum of £14.57

Any thoughts on how the reported soft focus and diffused light stylization bear on the impact of the 3D?

I thought it was a surprisingly good conversion that I didn't think suffered from the way the film was shot: If only a lot more films that were shot pin-sharp and with deep focus had been given 3D conversions that worked as nicely as this one does.

Sounds good, I appreciate your recommendation; I'd been mulling this one over and it came at just the right time. I'd forgotten she was in it, but this will make my second Vikander title in 3D (Tomb Raider the other).

Another 3D disc featuring a diffuse look was 300: Rise of an Empire. Pleasing in many ways but spatially, my mind was never sure what to make of water spritzing onto the virtual lens. Reminding me of a capturing medium implied a traditionally flat, cinematic experience...so I'd pretend it was natively shot. Alas, too much thinking tended to spoil the illusion.
