Technically, it always has to be 'screwed with' for home. The actual true theatrical version is designed for a movie theater and must be modified for home. Like video, you hope whoever handles it does it well.

I had to turn this up about 10 db compared to typical releases for average volume.

It looked great on my set-up as well. Really nice shadow detail in those darker and nighttime scenes.

Video transfer is Disney's best on the format so far. That much is for sure.

But yeah, audio wise, their Atmos mixes are absolute trash. Something definitely needs to be rectified.

I can't believe John Archer decided to bring awareness to the stupid ass 'IMAX AR' petition, as opposed to the muted audio on all of these releases so far.

It's unacceptable considering what Disney is charging for 4K blu-rays compared to other studios.

At least Warner can justify their prices with their killer Atmos mixes.

That's the main big thing.

With all of the "audio is half the experience" people on here, and also considering the stink people are putting up over in the 2001 thread, I would have thought that there would be a lot more public pushback on the Disney audio issue. I'm surprised so many of the hardcore enthusiasts pay the Disney tax instead of not buying them out of principal.

I haven't watched this 4k disc yet, I bumped it back to sat night now...I suddenly find myself not in any hurry to view it (a blind buy) because this thread has kind of soured the anticipation lol as I just don't know what to expect with so many views all over the place (great flick, overrated/so so, beautiful PQ, poor CGI, etc). Still looking forward to it though...it's Marvel after all and looks like a fun ride.

Anyways, here's my code FWIW:

Surprisingly I just tried the code a a few minutes ago and it hadn't been redeemed yet, so thank you. Now I don't have to wait until my preordered UK 3D Combo arrives next month to (re)watch the movie

I'll make sure to find a way to "pay it forward" soon, as I have quite a few digital codes I could give away

Why would there be any difference these days with a home version from the theater version? They use more speakers. The formats automatically scale up and down. There's zero need for a different mix. Speaker arrays and any room correction have nothing to do with the mix. I even have played the actual theater DTS disc for The Matrix at home synced to the BD. It was different because if the encoding tech at the time. The soundtrack sounds more compressed, but otherwise nearly the same as the Dolby mix. There are no placement differences or anything you're probably imagining.

I'll check out the low volume audio, my dog gets too excited when the volume is loud, especially with animals growing.

Yeah, good description. I would call it "constrained", you need to crank up the volume to get decent dialog volume and that makes the bass out of balance, almost distorted. But, amazing picture quality. Give a raise & promotion to the person in charge of the video encoding, fire the person in charge of the audio encode.

I think there's a bit more too it than that, what I gather they are doing is one soundtrack for all home releases with streaming, rather than the disc version in mind.

Now I like streaming, it has it's place, but if it's starting to interfere with physical releases, I'm going to evolve into one of those 'streaming is evil' luddites that exist.

What a great movie this was. This is how it's done.
And it all comes down to creating a multi-dimensional villain. The background story is what made this something remarkable. 5 big stars!

Watched the HDR 10 version of this last night. Had some pretty amazing moments, some of the jungle scenes were top notch 4k HDR, pretty much any scene showing the landscape of wakanda. However there were a couple scenes that seemed like the hightlights weren't consistently bright as the camera cut to different angels.

Mainly the casino scene and the final fight scene on the underground mining train area.

It would cut from the lights being very bright and hdr-ey to another angle and the same lighting source would be kinda dim and muted. It was a little jarring. Don't know if it's my TV or the actual vudu hdr 10 encode. Anyone else notice anything similar?

Yes. Also the ambush scene at the beginning. Too crushed.
But man the movie itself was so good! We needed some depth of character after the shallowbess8 of Thor Ragnarok

I did as well. So, first of all, that's not right. None of us should have had this concern.

Second, the surround experience is muted, even if volume adjusted. I'm not into thunder LFE so much as I am interested in the proper use of SL/SR/SBL/SBR. They are deliberately sabotaging!

Thanks for that confirmation.

As far as the movie... I enjoyed it, but it was significantly overhyped. I understand the social and cultural relevance of the movie, but reading and hearing impressions lead me to believe this movie was one of the greatest ever made. The 97% rotten tomatoes score, to me is more of a reflection of the political climate we're in than the movie itself. I'd say the 79% audience score is pretty close to accurate. I'd give it a bonus point just to bring it up to 80% if it were me.

On a side note, this movie really made me want to go back and rewatch Black Dynamite... Michael Jai White is awesome and that movie was a really great at mocking (and paying tribute to) the blaxpoitation genre, although I think much of the satire went over alot of people's heads.

Look at the most recent villains in Thor Ragnarok, Justice League, Wonder Woman...All uni-dimensional bad guys with nothing to bring to the table. That is where Black Panther shines the most. Good guys making wrong choices sometimes and bad guys only being the result of those choices

I might be done "blind buying" new MCU titles, since I'm not enjoying too many of them, but there's no effin' way this site is going to be enjoyable if all our favorite catalog titles are neutered. Ironman! Captain America: The First Avenger!! Thor!!! The Avengers!!!!

Can't let this happen.

And lord forbid if the real Star Wars and Empire are ever tackled. I'm not even going to sleep tonight.
It might be a good idea to contact the folks at Marvel Entertainment. Even though its owned by Disney, it should be be pointed out to its leadership that it's parent is perverting the concept of an MCU blockbuster by neutering the sound on home releases. Thor Ragnarok had the same audio issues and it doesn't bode well for Deadpool 2 or Avengers Infinity War when they're released for home viewing. There's no excuse for this on Blu-ray or 4K releases.
