Not at all. She has got a couple of catchy tunes and a couple of other assets. That is her claim to fame. It has very little to do with being gay or singing about it. There are plenty of artists who are more successful than Katy who do not sing about similar subjects and there are plenty of less successful artists that do.

Ahhh but the less talent you have... the bigger gimmick you need... that's just the gimmick she chose. I'm not saying that every one hit wonder will use that SAME gimmick.

I think you misunderstood my replies.

They mean keep away from the subject. It will not end well for you as I am going to keep the thread open.

If you understand it is/was a gimmick to get her name out there then it shouldn't bother you. Every group of people should be able to take a bit of mocking, nothing is sacred. Get used to it.

I agree. Even though she's listed on the song credits, I doubt Katy Perry had much to do with writing the song...but who knows. I don't know many of her other songs to judge whether she's actually good at singing, but from this one song alone, it's easy to conclude she's not.

Of all pop artists around now, I like Rihanna the most . She's at least been able to stick around for a few years, without relying on a gimmick. Of course, this also has nothing to do with her talent (if she has any), as much as it is that she's just a creation of a record label, and is constantly fed decent/catchy songs to record.

If you are a songwriter and write a good/catchy song, what would you do with it? Would you try to record it yourself, and have nobody ever hear it, or would you try to shovel it off to an already successful act like a Rihanna or Katy Perry type, who could garner more attention for your work?

Pop music is no different than professional wrestling. It doesn't matter if you are good at what you do. If you're marketable, attractive, charismatic, etc. you stand a far better chance of succeeding than a talented person with the opposite traits. People don't want singers or wrestlers as much as they want entertainers.

I thought the way Fox News covered "I Kissed a Girl" back when it was a hit song over the summer, was pretty funny. If I didn't know any better, O'Reilly could've convinced me the world was ending.
