Heh. Yes, he praised it for a couple of things.

I have a book in Swedish that contains his diaries and such, and it's quite fun and interesting when he talks about the films he liked, disliked and so on.

Rivette's idea of directing and Cameron's are totally different. I would never place trust in what one artist says about another. They see the medium through the lens of their artistic process. Now, if Rivette was talking about one of his French contemporaries, I'd be more open to care about what he had to say (barely).

I found that article where Rivette trashes Titanic ("Cameron's not evil, he's not an a**hole like Spielberg") and he actually spends more time trashing Kate Winslet, going so far as to calling her "awful", "unwatchable" and "slovenly" (slovenly? Really? WTF?). Interesting guy. He does call Showgirls one of the best American films in years ("And that actress is amazing!"), so I gotta give him that...

Well, isn't that obvious?

Rivette was still a person. And he had opinions on other directors just like other people have. I just happen to agree with him on Cameron, which has nothing to do with any kind of trust. Whether his direction is close or not close to Cameron's is irrelevant, he is still allowed to say the thing with the paper bag.

Sure, but I wouldn't put much weight in it.

Rosenbaum, who is probably the most ardent Rivette enthusiast, liked Titanic, so there's that.

You can be selective and side with Rivette, I'll side with Rosenbaum.

Christopher nolan has made only 1 decent film in his whole career and that's the prestige. The rest are overrated garbage.

It seems pretty popular to say Nolan only made one good movie. It's just contentious as to which movie that is.

I think Guy Ritchie films suck. Didn't enjoy Snatch at all and thought his Sherlock films were extremely mediocre. I just can't get into his style.

I can see justification in this. He has a very particular style that is really just love or hate. I personally really liked Snatch and Lock Stock, but the rest of his films I've never been a fan of at all, though I've never seen King Arthur.

I have only seen two of his films, but they were pretty bad. I can't say my enthusiasm is high when it comes to checking out more, heh.

do yourself a favor and don't see it. that flick's an abomination on every level possible. it's just ritchie doing his usual gimmick with rapid fire cuts and flashbacks and it looks absolutely horrendous in fantasy setting. there's a character literally named mike ffs. the fighting scenes are video game tier. and that's just the tip of the iceberg...

That's not an unpopular opinion, that's just good taste.

I really enjoyed Jurassic Park 2. The cast was actually fairly solid IMO. It isn't the "perfect" JP movie by any means, but honestly I enjoyed it way more than Jurassic World.
