FWIW I thought Grease looked fine from a little more than half that distance.

...on a 40" screen, correct? Viewing the Grease UHD on a 65" from that same distance is a little more eye opening.

Yeah but I can still see DNR when it's obvious. Not saying Grease doesn't have any, just that I didn't see it. Always gets weird when dudes talk about sizes smh

I was literally gonna put a dick measuring joke in there. Thought better of it.

For me the DNR is blatant on Grease because when it kicks in there's no grain to be found and textures take on a very smoothed over appearance. Not outright "waxy", but then that's not the only telltale sign of noise reduction.

Weird, I'll look for it next time, or jsut hold off til I get a bigger TV (which may be happening soon). Was watching the movie for the first time ever so I probably got sucked into it. 'Tis a good one.

I still don't think I've noticed DNR on anything I've watched, but I'm happy to be blind to it. I can just buy everything without worrying about it.

Robert Zemeckis loves the DNR. He said that the BTTF Trilogy looks amazing on Blu-ray.

The audio on the Grease UHD BD is really what makes it. If that were still goofed up, I would have passed on the disc. The video processing done to it is disappointing to say the least.

The DCP version of the BTTF trilogy has all the grain.

I agree, Goodfellas on UHD is a mess.

Paramount will probably be like a Jekyll and Hyde of UHD. I bet the first two Mission Impossibles look great, then Top Gun will be Greased.

Tony Scott gave specific instructions for the grain to be left the hell alone when they did the 3D conversion so when we get it on UHD (with a Top Gun sequel coming then a UHD of the first one will be a shoo-in) I think it'll be fine. It's them two MI's that I'm much more worried about. The stuff in the Chunnel at the end is still one of my favourite action scenes and the VFX is just phenomenal, but if the eejits at Paramount decide to mess with it just because it's a filmout and doesn't look quite as zingy as the 1st gen footage then I'm gonna let out a cry of fanboy anguish that will echo across the cosmos, Kirk-style.
