Look how you just bucked a caps-induced spasm? Speaks volumes. You conveniently gloss past the very meat of my post to attempt to circumvent my point that no home video format has had consistent results across the board?

So to act like UHD magically will be the first format to deliver universal goods just because it's the latest, and you feel it should because it's 4K... is indeed correct to label entitled. No matter what age in years was not my argument. I said "marker" of the generation of entitlement. I won't care if I'm mocked for saying so.

I don't believe he has the disc as he is just regurgitating review content.

Lol @ at comments about the format dying. Especially now? Really? With almost all the studios putting out catalogue titles and doing a solid job excluding a few titles. It’s not going to revive physical media or anything but it’s also not going anywhere anytime soon.

Now that I have your anecdotal observation to go by, I can just dismiss that home entertainment spending report. Who needs actual data in the face of such observational prowess? I am very naive, please excuse me.

No one said anything about it becoming "the standard", either. The report just indicates that the 4K UHD disc format is doing very well. 130% sales growth is a pretty healthy indicator.

The only scarce title that I am aware of is Warner Bros. recent release of The Matrix 4K UHD. WB has played this game before with other 4K catalog releases, i.e. Blade Runner, but after a few weeks their 4K catalog titles are easy to find.

Anecdotal perhaps, but true none the less. Wether you want to face reality or not, physical media is becoming less popular as streaming becomes the new norm. When studios put out bullshit looking transfers, people like me who prefer physical media become less supportive. Especially when I pay a premium price for a film that I already own, only to discover that the "new" product is inferior. I really wanted to buy Forrest Gump on 4K, I just can't justify spending $25 on a movie that may look worse than the blu ray that I already own.

I am not doubting the veracity of your observations, just your extrapolating from them to encompass the whole market. The sample size of your observations is too insignificant to indicate anything about the entire market for 4K UHD discs and it is too localized to just where you live and to where you travel. Your personal observations, like mine, do not prove anything. It is why every industry collects and analyzes sales data rather than just asking what a couple of employees observe among their families and friends.

I did read the link in my own post. I am aware that physical media is in a decline overall. That does not change the fact that 4K UHD disc sales are experiencing robust growth. I am a strong advocate and supporter of physical media. I think my collection numbers prove that readily.

I do not expect anyone to pay a premium for a subpar product, but in this instance I plan on waiting for a few more reviews and for a few forum members to provide their opinions before I make my purchase decision. I await a consensus from both reviewers and our fellow forum members; reviewers here, and elsewhere, have been very wrong at times. I would remind you that early on in the evolution of the blu-ray format, we were offered many releases of variable quality. We still get occasional blu-ray releases with poor quality after all of these years into the format.

Like with blu-ray before it, I try to evaluate each 4K title on an individual basis as it is released. I buy the titles that I like and those that have received a mostly positive reception. I will take chances on deeply discounted titles when I feel like taking a gamble.

Learning about each release on a website like this one is an invaluable resource that helps us to avoid bad releases while also allowing us to identify the great ones. Tracking prices and sales is very easy here, too, and that really extends the purchase power of our respective movie budgets. Even 4k discs go on sale.

BRASSTAX, I have been watching your videos for some time and have to say that you need to continue doing what you're doing, don't change up too much. I appreciate hearing your reviews with your unique style and honest approach which you make fun. You really shouldn't have to respond to the negative people on here the way you have been, the growing success of your channel will be response enough.

I don't watch YouTube reviews of content, I have only seen the brass one as it was linked here.
If he showed he had Gump then fine, but nope.
All he did was quote other reviews.
And you are off in your own defence zone defending someone I have not seen, heard or commented on.

Consistency is a little too much to ask, I guess.

Plenty of noise visible though, the stuff shot on Viper & F25 even looks grainy in a film-esque kinda way, it shocked me how good it looked on the UHD (when I wasn't feeling queasy due to my motion sickness, that is).

But I find that DI stuff rarely gets twatted with DNR because it's literally the finished record of the film, with colour and grading decisions baked in (or available via metadata), but when transferring from film negative to video they have to colour time it from scratch (even intermediate elements require careful colour correction for video) and that always seems to leave the door open for other things to be fudged with.

I can't imagine another advance which isn't very close to the DCP drives that commercial theaters get. Maybe in ten years there will be a consumer home theater "data stick" of some sort rather than optical disc.

I always knew grain needed to be managed more carefully in 4K, but after a few great releases it seems they are just DNR'ing whatever they please in spots. It's ridiculous.
