What I hate is that studio's don't release UHD in a "ultimate" release that contains UHD, 3D and Blu-ray. Some studios have done this in the USA and Japan, but nothing in the UK. For 2D films that didn't have a 3D release, i will be switching ftom now ob to buy the UHD versions

Pretty much all films with 4K and 3D releases have a 4K + 3D combo pack in Japan, and usually with better cover art too.

I have been avoiding Blu-rays since 2015 and buying UHD:s since. Even though i got 4K-plaeyr may 2016. I already had over twenty UHD:s by then.
Got lucky with some that i hold back. (Ex Machina, Chappie, Jupiter Ascending, Terminator Genisys...) But some i still have not even seen.

I'm at a crossroads with the format.

I'll soon be moving into a new home, and I'll have a dedicated 'cinema room', so I'm currently trying to decide between a new 4K TV (my first) or a 1080p/3D projector.

While the idea of 4K UHD HDR sounds good in theory, how likely am I to notice the benefits sat back at a reasonable distance from a 50" TV? Sure the demos in John Lewis looks nice, but it's hard to gauge any practical benefit when you're stood up close and taking in the effect.

I considered buying any new Blus I was interested in in the new 4K combo packs, but the extra cost and uncertainty of it being worth while has put me off until now. And of course, I'd have to invest in a new stand-alone player (thanks PS4...).

55" you should watch from one meter, 65" from less than two meters and 75" little over two meters to see all the details off 4K. If you have larger room or you can't watch that close you need projector.
I have to have the best PQ so its no brainer to me and i can't watch film in blu-ray if i know theres a UHD of it.

I’ve just gone 4k, tv and player. I didn’t think it would, but it has given me a massive buzz about buying movies again.

I didn’t future proof, I kinda don’t regret it either (maybe Rogue One). I have the recent Spider-Man 4k as that was accidentally sent and Blade Runner 2049 as it was a free gift. The set up I’ve bought comes with SW Last Jedi. I think I’m still going to be buying a good amount of BDs as Arrow, Indicator and a few others do not release 4k and apparently don’t plan to.

I’m mainly going to buy Sci-Fi or films which will really lend itself to the 4k picture, the landscapes, the technology you see in those type of films. I don’t feel I need to own something like The Darkness Hour in 4k, I’m sure BD quality would be more then good enough. I think with this format I’m going to be a lot more selective. I started that way with BD then it became anything, especially with sales and eBay, now the Poundland pick ups. I had to upgrade everything I loved.
I can’t go through the upgrade of everything like I did DVD to BD.

That’s just for me, not judging anyone who wants it all etc, not at all. Maybe when these become as cheap as BDs have I may, but it’s not the outlook now.

They did in the U.K. with Spider-Man Homecoming on 4k. It came with a 3D disc and 2d Blu-ray aswell. It was a Steelbook from HMV.

HMV also did the exact same thing for War for the Planet of the Apes.4k/3d/2k and a Steelbook. I will never sell those, just wish there were more but at least we have those.

Plus Blade Runner 2049 Steelbook 4k/3d combo at HMV.
