Default Searching (August 3, 2018) - starring John Cho, Debra Messing

After his 16-year-old daughter goes missing, a desperate father breaks into her laptop to look for clues to find her.

Looks like it will take place on an entire laptop screen like Unfriended.

John Cho doesn't age. So it was kinda weird to me at first seeing him the father of a high school girl.

I'm really enjoying John Cho's post-Harold career.

This is basically Unfriended's spiritual successor?

Saw the trailer before Adrift yesterday. Looks interesting. Comes out on my b-day.

Coming out so soon after Unfriended 2 probably won't do it any favors.

I'm mildly curious, but these laptop movies play way better on Netflix than on the big screen.

I saw this trailer in the theaters on Sunday.
This is no more than a redbox rental for me.

Guess it's no longer opening wide next weekend. BOM has an estimated 9 theaters.

This was known back in July, just never got posted here.

Oh, so I am getting it the same week as you guys from the US (just two days before the 31st, like MI: Fallout and Alpha)

Oh ok. I knew it changed dates but didn't know it was announced as limited. BOM had it as wide until late this week.

[Show spoiler]She exists. It's actually a bittersweet story. And one hell of a change in pace for both John Cho and Debra Messing

Just saw Searching today. This film was a very nice surprise. Clever is a real good way to describe the concept of this film and it is executed very well. The script is tight and the film develops into a very interesting mystery that never stalls; and they keep throwing surprising twists at you that keep you engaged throughout the entire narrative. John Cho and Debra Messing are excellent in roles that allow them to step out of their known comfort zones. The current 92% RT score is well deserved. This film presents an excellent freshman effort from first time director/writer, Aneesh Chaganty and signals some real talent that hopefully will be on display again in the near future.

Well, I just saw Searching -- and I have to agree with my colleagues above. One of the biggest surprises of the year. It was clever, suspenseful, and surprisingly emotional. The mystery was genuine, and there were a lot of unexpected twists and turns. Terrific work by John Cho and Debra Messing.

See it before it gets spoiled!
