what a game that Ger - Mex was but fell short....better get their act together! Mexico could have easily been up 2 or 3....

and great upset by the swedes! Brazil had so many chances but couldnt convert. great game and solid result....

lets see if England can finally step up this world cup!

Get in!

Kane finally managed to escape the Tunisian wrestlers at a corner.

Don't know why Kane was still there at that point.....having been pinned and 3-counted twice already beforehand!

Entertaining match last night between England & Tunisia. It was interesting seeing England on the attack from the start but there should have been more balls put in the back of the net IMO for England. Absolutely shocking though that Kane gets wrestled down the he did TWICE and nothing happens, even with VAR?! For Tunisia to even defend like that, they deserved to lose.

Glad Rashford got some play, was it confirmed that the other England player behind him called for the ball, which is why he didn't pull the trigger?

I didn't get to see the match in full last night due to work, but caught the highlights later in the evening. But yes, at times it almost looked like I was watching a rugby match rather than football. Excellent start for England though.

He should have pulled the trigger regardless. It’s not unknown for opposition players to shout ‘leave it’ and in the noise of w stadium, it can’t always be easy to pick out teammates voices.

Poor second half display by England but they got the win.

Hopeful for three decent games today.

So how exactly does the VAR work? Is it used at the referee request or through the players/manager request?

Lol. So then really, if he's a bent ref, VAR won't expose that then. I mean, the ref in last night's match more than likely saw Kane go down twice and decided not to use the VAR. Where as, if VAR could have been requested by players/manager, there would have been two penalty kicks.

I'm probably totally wrong here, but I was under the impression that the VAR official could intervene if they saw something that the referee might not have spotted. It could be that the final decision rests with the main referee, but I'm not 100% sure who decides what - in other words if the VAR says it's a fowl, can a referee still ignore it.

I don’t think there are “bent refs” just humans who miss things and see things differently.
Another ref may not have given Tunisia thier pen.

You’re right,VAR is assisted by referees so if they believe the ref should double check something he can, they obviously didn’t contact him with the England penalty claims.

That's even more shocking IMO, as that mean that none of them saw it happen TWICE, yet fans did. Oh well, it is what it is.

Yeah the VAR refs mistakes were inexcusable to be honest. They could and should have intervened.

Still, it's a win, and apart from the good result and opening 20 mins it was a shaky start.

Walker should have been sent off as well for the English last night.

FIFA are going to look into it as they have stated it wasn’t used properly in those instances.
