I still think it's dubious to hinge on any amateur reviewer, no matter what setup they have, how much you trust them or like their 'style', and whether their equipment meets whatever arbitrary need for credibility. And I also think it's silly to put all stock in one or even two of the pro-published reviews/reviewers.
I put stock in a consensus forming over time as being the only real way to verify. But in my case it's just a hope the titles are well reviewed as I'll get 10% more excited to see it in time. I'm not discounting a release like Gump on UHD from purchase. It's getting bought, despite mixed reviews and reports of DNR. Same T2. Don't care (if they exchange program, bonus). Same others in the DNR thread like from Nolan. Got 'em anyway. Same these, especially MI: I, my favourite by far; despite the unknown quantities they are so far! |

If it's a movie that I MOST definitely want in my collection (whether it be new or a catalog title) I WILL get it in 4K if it is available. I don't care what the reviews say. It would be nice if the reviews had good things to say, but at the end of the day, I don't care. Most of the movies that I want I don't already have them on Blu-ray. I don't have them at all in fact. So in that instance, I will always choose the 4K over the Blu-ray when given the chance.

Since the other thread got shut down, I'd like to start it up again as Blu-ray.com has come out with a review of the first film on UHD.
A steady grain field, strong detail and color, Dolby Vision, and a wonderful 5.1 24-bit TrueHD soundtrack- sounds like a great start to this franchise transfer wise. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Missi...202922/#Review If the transfer was bad, I'd have to scale the walls of Paramount's office complex, find the people in charge of this transfer in a meeting and start yelling [Show spoiler]

Have these ever been confirmed for a box set in the U.S.?
I want to upgrade my blus but $125+ to buy the singles is nonsense. I think I've been spoiled by the relatively low price of the Jurassic Park and Men in Black sets. |

The UK lads have the box set, NA has individual releases.

Doubtful. Very doubtful. I am so stoked for this release, but I will have to wait. The ol' bank account just doesn't like me right now. Gotta play good boy.

Sorry if this is an amateur question, but as someone without a home theater or UHD yet . . .are the BDs sourced from the 4K masters or are they just reissues of the existing BDs? And does iTunes upgrade their versions to the new versions or is the digital version also the same old masters? Thanks!
EDIT: Whoops, I see this was partially just answered. Bummer. |

This is kind of a disturbing trend. It would be nice if they updated the 11 year old Blu-ray that still offers only lossy sound. I imported a Danish Mission: Impossible set a while back to get the lossless sound for the first three movies, so I'm good. I know most of you with 4K set ups probably don't care that the Blu-ray has not been remastered but it's so lazy of them to just throw in the old Blu-ray. And sales would be higher if they offered a remastered Blu-ray along with the 4K disc. North American fans have been asking for that for a decade.

They did reupdate the Matrix 1080p bluray, but that is pretty rare. I for one see no reason whatsoever to watch the 1080p bluray when a 4K UHD disc is available.
$730 gets you a full blown DV HDR setup with the TCL 615 and LG UP970 which are the current prices at BestBuy. The TCL also goes up to 840 nits with real world content which only the top of the line Samsung Q9FN and Sony 800F can surpass and at a minimum price increase of $900. Especially, when the Blu-ray is as bad as one such as Mission Impossible.
