I picked it up yesterday but only had chance to play it for half an hour. It's good so far, great atmosphere. Movement feels a little clunky and having come off Assassins Creed I feel like I should be able to jump and climb things lol. I'll report more when I get the chance to put some more time in. The first half hour was mostly intro type stuff anyway.
One really cool thing about it is that it does throw you right into it from the start. There's no super lengthy cut scene setting everything up, you're just straight into the gameplay (but being taught your abilities etc.). Last edited by levcore; 06-06-2018 at 12:47 PM. |

It'll remind me of playing Batman Arkham Knight/City/Asylum. I wish there was a day/night cycle in that game, but it was still good.

Based on what I've played so far, the map doesn't look very big at the moment but maybe it opens up more, or maybe it doesn't I can't really tell! It does appear that everything is open but I haven't done much exploring as the game is leading me a certain way in the initial stages to set up the story. One thing I will say though is that without a climbing mechanic it kind of makes the world feel even smaller. On one hand Vampyr looks like it should play like an Assassins Creed type game, with the combat etc but the movement is nothing like Assassins Creed, you don't have nearly the same kind of freedom. The character interactions play out like a cross between Witcher and a Sherlock Holmes type game, with lots of dialogue choices. Overall it's definitely a hybrid of RPG and action horror. I'm still getting to grips with it and the menus are a bit confusing initially.
With the NPC characters you have a table where they are listed after you've met them and there are various hints about their character and person that you need to find out. It's kind of weird but interesting, I just need to wrap my head round it a bit more. I really like what I've played but I need to get into the meat of the game a bit more to be honest. [Show spoiler] I just hope the world feels bigger as the story develops as like I said, the map doesn't look that big. Atmosphere is great though and the gameplay has a lot to it and I lot to learn with various abilities to level up etc. You can't save on the spot though which I'm used to with RPG's. I think I'll wait to see if a lot of people really like this one. I enjoyed Remember Me and Life is Strange, but I don't think I'll make time for this one unless it is a standout.

Yes I'm really enjoying it too but the combat has quite the brutal learning curve to it. One of the most interesting aspects of the game is deciding who to bite and when to do it. I want to level up but I also don't want the status of a given area to drop so quickly.

I've played 1-2 hours so far, I'm enjoying it a lot. I like the combat, or what I've seen of it to this point. Framerate is mostly between 40-60 on my 390 & 4690, though the area I've just got to sometimes drops to mid 20s when spinning the camera around. Story so far is relatively compelling, I am definitely interested in what's going to happen next.

I've been playing a lot more over the weekend and the game has really opened up. The map, despite not being the biggest, is really well used and it has lots of cool and well design areas with different side streets etc. It appears that a lot of the map is indeed open from the start however there are certain enemies in certain areas that are far beyond your abilities initially so it is advisable to just work through the story and gradually level up.
The more I play of Vampyr, the more I enjoy it. It is very challenging at times and I have died a lot but I'm getting more and more used to the combat which does take some learning initially. The story is compelling, the atmosphere is second to none and the graphics are really good. |

Had a side quest glitch out on me which is annoying (an enemy is not appearing where they should). The problem with one single save for a playthrough is that when this happens you cannot revert to an earlier save to see if you can rectify the glitch.

I started the game again from scratch on Saturday because of a foolish oversight on my part relating to zones going hostile.
So it turns out if a zone is almost hostile, the worse thing you can do is kill and 'embrace' someone from that zone, because then the zone goes hostile and every single NPC dies immediately, thus losing ALL side quests from that zone forever! Madness, I couldn't believe the game is that harsh! I did this in Whitechapel and I wish they'd given me some kind of heads up or warning. When I realised my error I had two options, carry on playing and accept that i'll never get to do any side quests in Whitechapel or start from the beginning and play a bit more carefully, so I chose the latter. It's given me a slight advantage now in that I know the mechanics of the game very well which is making the whole thing easier. One more slip up I made on my second attempt though is not rescuing someone when they needed me to. A guy at the docks was being attached by skals and they were a few levels up from me so I thought I'd go back and rescue him when I was more powerful. This is fine as long as you don't go to sleep, which is what I did. Sure enough the guy died and then it was too late to go back. |

Man this game is kicking my behind. I'm still really enjoying it but I'm getting a little drained with the constant boss battles and always finding I'm several levels below whatever boss they throw at me next. I then have to go on a lengthy killing spree grind fest to try and level up before I attempt the boss again. Levelling up wasn't such a chore in something like Dying Light or Assassins Creed as there was always so much to do but that isn't the case with Vampyr. There's either side missions which are few and far between or just random killing, which can get old quickly.
This game does something that I find absolutely infuriating. There is no manual save, the game saves when it wants to save and you cannot revert back to any previous save as you only have your current save. In order to be ready for big fights you need to make sure you have plenty of health syringes. In order to craft these you have to kill loads and loads of skals (zombified humans mostly) to get the key ingredient you need. This can take some time. Anyway you get the ingredient, you craft the syringes and you go into battle against a boss. The boss totally kicks your ass and you use up all your syringes in the battle but end up dying. Now you have to repeat the whole damn process again and find the ingredients to create the syringes to go into battle against the boss again. This is absolutely maddening! I can't understand why the save system doesn't allow you to start again with your health syringes, considering how much time it spent to get the ingredients for them. Honestly sometimes it can take me an hour to get the ingredients I need to craft just 4 of them. Only to have it all wiped out in a 2 minute battle with a boss. IMO this is an unfair mechanic in the game and it can make playing a really joyless grind. You should at least be able to start from a save before the fight where you have all your health syringes. |

The save system sounds bad. I always like knowing where my last save was at. I haven't played it yet. When you die at a boss where does it respawn you if it doesn't reload the last save prior to the battle? |
