Do you really think an Ankylosaurus could swim? Or any other of those that fell off the cliff? They drowned.

I would just hope it didn't take a movie loaded with special effects for people to have empathy towards animals.... This is why we can't have nice things!!

whether or not they could survive the aftermath once they made it to land is a different question, but no reason to believe they couldn’t swim. elephants for example are excellent swimmers.

Yes, some of the animals fleeing the volcano were shown to be captured by the mercenaries later. However, we do see a few animals drowning. But the shot quickly cuts away to focus on the plight of the humans. So, we are distracted by Chris Pratt instead. But for the Brachiosaur scene, the shot lingers on and it feels never-ending. We experience her helplessness and suffering and that breaks our heart.

No spoiler tags because... everything I mention is in the trailers.

The movie was fine for what it was but it almost had no beats. Everything just moved at such a brisk pace that rarely did any tension build. Even the scene I was so looking forward to with the Indoraptor crawling into bed with Maisie (that sounds weird) was paced exactly as we saw in the trailers.

I feel like there were major set pieces that weren't treated like major set pieces. The scene with Owen and Claire in the truck with the T-Rex should have been filled with dread and tension. But it just kind of happens, when you can tell the pieces of a better constructed scene are already there. Like someone else said, there's definitely a disconnect between how dangerous the animals are and how casual they are about them at times, while J.A. Bayona has great ideas but doesn't have the Spielbergian touch that sometimes movies like these really need.

There were just a lot of choices made that were head scratchers, not just when it comes to the logical nature of some of the scenes, but even where CGI was chosen over practical effects. Back to the scene with Maisie in her bedroom, yes we knew from the trailer that the Indoraptor's foot was a shiny/shimmery CGI but what a great moment for it to have been wet and scaly and an actual claw tapping. The stuff nightmares are made of.

Yes, it's nitpicking at this point which is coming from someone who holds the first movie in such hugely high regard, but also The Lost World: Jurassic Park not as a whole but it's got some great sequences, the one with the trailer over the cliff being one of the most suspenseful in the entire franchise. Also, the raptors in the long grass scene, the T-Rex going into the camp, etc. It was chockfull of them because Spielberg. This movie would have definitely benefited from that kind of craftsmanship for action.

If i had to rate this on first viewing, I'd probably give it 3/5. I'm interested to see a Director's Cut where hopefully some of these high concept ideas got a little more room to breathe.

If I had to rank them:

Jurassic Park
Jurassic World
The Lost World: Jurassic Park
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Jurassic Park 3

Yeah, I was also saddened by the brachiosaurus scene in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Move over, Old Yeller. This brachiosaurus scene packs just as much of a punch.

Hopefully in the next they will leave the kids out of the 3rd movie. Do they really think people want to spend 2 hours hearing little kids scream? It’s bad enough they add useless supporting cast members when they do t even get eaten. But I’m always hoping the kids in these movies are one of the ones who get eaten and I’m always disappointed.

To bad we didn’t get to see that lava burning the dinosaur.

That's not going to happen.

These Jurassic Park films are perfect children's movies. The first Steven Spielberg one is obviously the best one in that regard, but all of the films in the series are best suited for the kids.

These movies give children a good scare (a safe scare, not an actual real-life dangerous scare) that psychologically encourages them to become strong and resilient people by facing fears and conquering those fears.

I am of the belief that every good children's movie should feature one or two scary scenes, for the above reason.

These movies will probably always feature child characters.
To its credit, the girl in Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom was actually one of the less annoying people in the entire film. She was a tough cookie, and she acted intelligently throughout the story (up until one particular scene near the end, I guess, but, even then, I get where she was coming from).

Saw this twice now and I can honestly say I’m perplexed by the hate this movie is getting, I genuinely love it (then again I hated Jurassic World so maybe it’s me that’s wrong?).

JW is so dull. So glad they got Bayona to give this a visually stunning look.

So, how does it feel to have a dark empty place where your heart is supposed to be?

(Since your above post got me laughing, though, I guess that I'm the same way.)

It feels good. I was laughing at that scene like how would the dinosaur know to run towards the boat? Never run to a dock when there’s lava if you can’t swim go to the beach side get on a rock that is some what in the water so you would be safe.
