I would argue that 7 years is not "newly emerged".
Time is irrelevant. They did a pivot last year and are begging for cash. You can be in startup mode for a decade if you want. That's rare, but not impossible. Those first 5 years were alpha test years IMO. They didn't have anything market viable and weren't gaining customers. It wasn't until they flipped their model and went after customers with a breakneck price point that the company started to disrupt the industry they were trying to. That is pure startup mode to me and I'm coming from experience not just talking out of my ass.

The bottom line is that there is no concrete definition of what constitutes a startup. Ask anyone in the tech industry, where it is most commonly used, and every single person will give you a different answer of what they think is a startup.

I think we should have a 20 paragraph discussion on the difference between premium tickets and reserved tickets, now.

I’m about to cancel my MoviePass in the next few hours since its failing to make a reservation for me. I already have two movie reservations with AMC today but I wanted to use MoviePass for a triple feature but I guess not. It was going to be the last movie with them anyways. I’ll try a few more times but it’s time to say goodbye.

It said you still get to finish our your month but I canceled about 3 days before the end of my final month so I didn't bother.

Oh god, not a 20 paragraph discussion on premium tickets and reserved tickets! :P (Let alone a discussion that takes 5-10 pages alone)

Alas, I would like both, but just getting premium so I can watch GTX movies, is good for now for me.

What do you mean? Are you trying to do an E-Ticket from home? Are you at the theater and it won't let you check in?

I would cancel and jump aboard the AMC train, but I have 5 1/2 months left on my year plan with MP (if they last that long). As long as I get 9 months out of it, I didn't lose anything, since it was basically "buy 9 months, get 3 months free." I need to start using it more. Tons of movies I've wanted to see in the theater, but I've been procrastinating. I have plans Friday night already, and will try to go on Saturday and Sunday...

The bad part is my friends, who also have MP, don't want to do AMC since it's too far for them. Right now we only go there as a group if there's a giveaway item they want. I go by myself after work sometimes, since it's on my way home...

That's why I switched to Sinemia. I wanted access to 4D (never had a 4D theater where I used to live). It was worth the upgrade, let me tell you.

One of my family members got the annual plan back in April, so I guess cancelling early would be a loss since there is no way MoviePass would offer partial refund at this point?

I'm not cancelling mine. Until they announce the premium ops, I'm going with both. I'm giving the AMC A-list the 3 month commitment try and use it strictly for 3D, Dolby and a few repeat viewings and MoviePass for everything else.

Yes, I have a E-ticket theater that has reserved seats and I always use it. I've never had a problem with it til now. I'm not a fan of checking in so good thing I have AMC.

There are only 2 options for sign-up at this time:
  • $9.95 a month for "unlimited" i.e. 1 regular 2D movie a day, no repeats of the same movie, no special events (Fathom) and no Bollywood.
  • $7.95 a month for 3 movies a month and 3 months of iHeartRadio (don't even consider this option unless you love iHeartRadio for some weird reason)
There is no annual plan available at this time (they removed the option for now.) Since there is only a monthly plan available at this time there is actually very little risk to you cost wise. If you see 1 or 2 movies a month (depending on ticket price) you get your money's worth.

Looks like I am stuck with moviepass until their inevitable demise. AMC's refusal to allow you to get an A-List membership for anyone under 18 kills it for me. If I can't go with my family, I'm not going to get it.

You're opposed to going to movies solo?

Even if you get it this month and they go out of business you could likely dispute the charge on your card. I agree that it is a pretty safe venture for the monthly sub.

I mean, if you're currently using MoviePass for family members under the age of 18, you're breaking their TOS. Sure, MP says they're going to add family plans, but they haven't yet.

It isn't fair to yell at AMC for having the same terms as MoviePass.

2.1. By opening a MoviePass account ("Account") and using the Service, you represent and warrant that: (1) you are legally capable of entering into a binding contract; (2) you are at least 18 years of age; and (3) you are a Resident of the United States. You may only sign up for the Service from within the United States.

I would most definitely get the unlimited plan, just hesitant about them going out of business part.
