Then what do you use to get the dist out? I live off a dirt road and I have to clean over other day from the dust. And right now, all my movies I have been watching new and used are haveing the image break up and repeat itself. It wasnt doing that a week ago, so I was just wondering.

I have never found a single problem with an optical device caused by a dirty laser, unless some idiot opened up a top loader and put his thumb on the lens You need to take it to a repair shop |

Ok HA HA everyone has a good laugh. But This is really getting to me. I had a PS3 and after 6 months the laser went out. And now I just got a Sharp BD player and now within 3 months its starting to act up. And when you live in the mounatins and off a dirt road and a dry creek bed and its windyall the time, its very hard to keep everything clean, and when you pay alot of money for this stuff and its breaks down after so many months, well it p****es me off to no end.

If your blu-ray device is still functional, I wouldn't do any cleaning of a preventative nature. I would just do all I could to prevent dust/dirt from getting into it. If the device stops working, I would recommend taking it to a professional cleaner. If this is too costly, or the problem is too regular, and the device isn't working and out of warranty anyway, you can get some optical cleaning supplies on-line. I should note that this isn't as simple as inserting a cleaning disc. You will have to have some skills at disassembling the drive to actually reach the objective lens (hopefully the problem isn't with the laser collimation section). First I would try air cleaning. If this doesn't work, I would only recommend cleaning with approved optical cleaning swaps and mild optical cleaning fluids. A normal technique is touching the swap straight to the lens (lens already covered with cleaning fluid) with no motion to let it pull in the dirt (good ones are designed to wick the particles along with the fluid). This might be enough, but if you need any motion for dust (not silica-based dirt), you can move the swab in a simple line, with no pressure. Do not use circles. True dirt will actually leave scratches of much larger area than the original particle, so I would avoid any scrubbing. If you are serious about cleaning the lens, and need more information about appropriate products, contact me by PM. This information will not be useful to 99% of owners, as I only recommend this as a last resort for extreme environments. |

I would say that getting a dedicated player may be the best solution, because they have an exhaust fan and that's it. The PS3 moves a ton of air through it both in and out and will compound your problem greatly. Dedicated players also use about 25% of the electricity and make virtually no noise, so it's win-win.
Galaxy Quest I'm sure is closer to the top than not |

known for electrical inconsistencies. Non-the-less I'd have a professional repair shop take a look. Less than the cost of a new player and numereous best guess trials over the Internet. Nothing helps cigarette smoke or greasy cooking. |

Tie it in with the new Star Trek film.
Plus, I hope they restore the original 1.85 ratio of the opening 20 min or so, so when the bay doors of the Protector open it reveals the 2.35 ratio as it was theatrically. Enchanted and Brother Bear were windowboxed in this manner. |
