I picked up The Dekalog and The Passion of Joan of Arc last night and both were blind buys. But it seems like it would be hard to go wrong with these two? It’s a little odd that I haven’t seen these since The Double Life of Veronique is one of my favorite films of all time and I’m a fan of several silent films. Might need to also pick up The Phantom Carriage before the sale ends.

I'd be very surprised if we didn't get that Altered States announcement with the October release calendar.

Jabberwocky is not entirely fully formed Gilliam, which feels closer to Monty Python's style than anything else he has done. You don't say whether you like Monty Python or not -- if you liked Time Bandits, and you do like Monty Python, you'll probably enjoy Jabberwocky. If you don't like Monty Python, it's harder to say, but likely it will at least be more of an uphill struggle. If nothing else, it has an all-too-rare lead performance by Michael Palin.

Doubt it would happen, but I'd love to see Peeping Tom and Equinox get announced for October.

I picked up Night of the Living Dead and Age of Innocence today from the B&N sale. I know we likely won't get more Romero films anytime soon (most are being released through Arrow) but I wouldn't mind seeing more Scorsese films under the Criterion banner.
Also, I've noticed some WB titles being released through Scream Factory, something I never thought I'd see happen, do you think we'll see any WB films get released through Criterion in the future |

I finally got my copy of Scanners in the mail. I still love the movie, but this release was SUPER grainy, almost to the point of being distracting. This is my first Criterion movie that I've seen, I like the case, but are all of them super grainy like this?

Picked up Lost in America. Hope more of Albert Brooks’ best directorial efforts end up on Criterion. I love Real Life and Defending Your Life too. But I’ll definitely take Lost in America and its extra features in the meantime. It’s also one of my favorites of his.

![]() Directed by John Frankenheimer (Seven Days in May, Seconds, Birdman of Alcatraz, The Train, Black Sunday). Standout performances from Frank Sinatra and Laurence Harvey, but Angela Lansbury steals the show. An example of how to make a chilling thriller that stands the test of time, and Hollywood could learn from today. Even the under-cooked whirlwind romance between Sinatra and Janet Leigh shoe-horned into the story can't diminish the brilliance, suspense, and impact of this masterpiece. This is a must own. And along with it be sure to pick up this sci-fi chiller also from Frankenheimer. ![]() This one-two punch should make for memorable viewing. Frankenheimer was at the top of his game in the 1960s. Seconds is a great film, a psychological twister that builds tension slowly as we witness the breakdown of Rock Hudson's character. If you are a fan of The Twilight Zone, you must get this. Yeah, I was in Naples a few years ago, driving through a shady looking area and a friend I was with told me about the book, then said a film was made from it. I saw the film first but haven't gotten around to the book yet. The film is great but I've been holding off on buying it because I think it was originally part of that bad batch of rotting discs that Criterion put out around nine years ago. I think most of the bad copies must surely be gone by now and I can finally pick it up during the B&N sale.

I've heard this before, but why is this a good thing? It looks low quality, and it makes it harder to see the image. Isn't the purpose of Blu-ray and 4K to make things sharper?
