No 720p output on Pioneer's BDP-05FD

I have the player set to auto. If I change it to any other setting, I lose the picture and error message " This mode not supported". The auto setting is 1080/60p Source and 480/60p Output. What I don't understand is my TV's Comp. inputs are as follows: Comp 1 480i/480p, Comp 2 & 3 480i/480p 720p, or 1080i. So why will it not support 1080i if I choose that setting?

Because it's outputting at 480/60p. That's DVD, not Blu-ray resolution.
