Aside from image size and picture, the best thing about having a home theatre projector is it is a pure display device, not bloated with a tonne of garbage like a tv tuner or applications or web browser, or even worthless speakers.

I don't like to talk at the best of time, except with friends. At work I limit it outside of meetings, as too ambiguous and open to miscommunication and memory. If someone comes to me verbally with a support mess to sort out, iget them to email the details and link a task. In no way do I want to waste my breath trying to get a frigging device to understand me. And in no way am I interested in devices to facilitate making me a day, lazy slob. I rarely even drive. I ride a pushbike and walk. Nice and low tech. We cannot escape it? Like hell we can't. Wejjstdont use them. I'm just sick of buying devices bloated down with xxxx like this, when they should be concentrating on what their frigging primary function is.
And on the other hand they drop stuff like 3d even though they could support with hardware. But hey, I need to have at least 8 different devices that all supply some form of xxxxty Netflix implementation, some better than others, and hey maybe even one that has 4k hdr, Atmos, and 24p control. But no, none of the smart devices I have can do all, but they spend money and time on Alexa and Google assistant.

Anyhow, I wish Panasonic would stick with just worrying about providing the best AV and maybe provide premium streaming apps that can actually support the best format for the available services. Heck, wouldn't it be nice to have an inbuilt streaming app like the Amazon video and Netflix, where you can DOWNLOAD the video, like you can on the Android apps, and watch without image degredation and drop outs. And if 24p source, you can watch at 24, not some mangled 60p abomination. But no, that would be too useful to AV enthusiasts.

For myself, I have no interest in voice control of devices in the media room, I do have it in other parts of the house . I was just curious how Panasonic planed to implement it in their new players keeping in mind they essentially abandoned IP control several years ago. My Oppo, Sony and LG BD players have superior Android apps over the Panasonic which is nothing more than a remote app.

Hello, once youve had a chance to evaluate the player, can you comment on how well the HDR off BT2020 works on your projector. Does it retain the full Bt2020 color? Can it be used without a vertex or linker? As someone that doesnt have the technical ability to do a custom Arve type curve, Id be most interested in how this would look, especially in comparison to the oppo. Thank you!

If you can get into the HDR to SDR conversion that would be great. I think the 820 is the player im getting.

My review will focus on this a lot. In fact, I am probably going to focus on the HDR implementation more than just about anything because the player is so similar to the previous 900, I don't want to just regurgitate what we already covered in the review for that player. This will include the HDR to SDR conversion and how it performs with a projector.

I can confirm full 2020 support with SDR output and no need for a linker/vertex/fury to enable this mode.

I’ve put my order of the UB9000 directly to Panasonic and will have the first review (which then I will purchase AT FULL PRICE. But at least I will literally be the first in Canada owning it.

MSRP in Canada will be $1,299

Will definitely be keeping my eye on this write up as I currently use an Epson 5040 as my main livingroom tv.

Excited for your impressions of the Panny 9000 video presentations. Also your experience of 9000 disc drive noise.
Since some on forums posted noise from the Panny ub820.
Given the 9000's construction and maybe a different disc drive... Silence may be Golden.

I have an 820 and an Oppo 203 and the optical drive in the panasonic is considerably louder
than the Oppo. I can quite clearly hear the drive when watching a UHD from about 3.5 metres away during quite parts of the movie. I’m in the UK and more owners have mentioned the noisy drives than have not with some owners sending theirs back for a refund.
Also the cooling fan is constantly on. You must be very lucky to have one with a quite optical drive.
It’s a shame that more effort was not put into the build quality so it would match the quality of its internal processing.

Do you now have a UB9000? How does it compare to the UB820 in picture and sound?
