This is very nice news since it means my Xbone will be a nice back-up player if/when I ever get a 2nd TV. Can't imagine I'll ever be using it to watch UHDs otherwise, though.
Would be great to see some more games in DV. Right now I think there are only a few games that even support DV on PC, but if they could bring them to the Xbone X that would be nice. |

While streaming is irrelevant to me (I just use my built-in smart TV apps which already do Dolby Vision), my 4k disc player is the One X, so it would be really cool to be able to access DV on the discs that have it.

So the DV support in the beta firmware is streaming only, no disc-support yet?

If the XBOX One S and XBOX One X does not get Dolby Vision HDR update for 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs then this would be a big disappointment. It appears streaming gets more support these days.
quote "For now, it appears that Xbox One S & X Dolby Vision support will be limited to Netflix streaming. In order to watch Dolby Vision Netflix content through the console, users will need a Dolby Vision compatible display and a Netflix Premium subscription. It's not yet clear if Microsoft also plans to add Dolby Vision support for Xbox One S & X Ultra HD Blu-ray playback." https://www.highdefdigest.com/news/s...ox-one-x/42080 |

The PS3 doesn't have a UHD drive and is HDMI 1.3 and also is no longer a supported platform, but I assume you know that already and are being combative for the hell of it.

Dolby once Demonstrated that you can run Dolby Vision on a Playstation 4.
https://www.engadget.com/2017/02/25/...r-in-software/ Quote from the Article. "In theory, your console, media hub or TV can get Vision support through an update. It could also lower the cost of including Vision by avoiding the cost of dedicated components. There shouldn't be a performance hit, Dolby adds, so you won't necessarily need a brawnier processor. And unlike the competing HDR10 standard, you don't need a newer HDMI 2.0a connector to make HDR happen -- HDMI 1.4 is enough. Your launch day PlayStation 4 could handle it, as Dolby once demonstrated by running Vision on Sony's console" |

The PlayStation 1 had a CD-ROM drive, Playstation 2 had a DVD-ROM drive, and the Playstation 3 had a BD-ROM drive. However in 2016 when the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format launched no version of the PlayStation 4 offers a 4K BD-ROM drive. When and if the Playstation 5 launches it hopefully well include a 4K BD-ROM drive. A 100GB size BD-ROM drive would be ideal for large videogame storage. I am in shock that Microsoft has become the best 4K videogame system on the market. Not only offering 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray support but a planned Dolby Vision HDR firmware update over HDMI 2.0b is really cool. I am guessing that HDR10+ well not be supported since HDMI 2.1 most of the time is ideal for HDR10+, but who knows maybe Microsoft might come up with a way to make HDR10+ work over HDMI 2.0b.
