“First: wash it. Yes, even if the disc looks new, flawless, pristine. I was skeptical at first, but years of experience with Blu-ray convinced me. I have rescued a great many discs that would not work in the player or mount on a computer this way. Immaculate discs may have invisible films from manufacturing that will interfere with playback. UHD discs are even more sensitve to films, dust, and fingerprints than Blu-ray. This is what I do: Put the disc in a sink, label side down, data side up. Run hot tap water over it for a minute or more. Lightly sponge the data side with dish soap. Work radially, from the center to the edge. Never rub an optical disc in a circular motion around the hub. Give it a good long rinse with hot water. Dry with a soft cloth. I actually use paper towels. The coating on Blu-ray and UHD is pretty tough, but treat it gently. My totally unsubstantiated theory is that the plastic of these discs sometimes has internal stresses from manufacturing that causes them to spin funny. (Like a potato chip?) The heat and pressure of scrubbing them releases the stress, making them more playable. Note that CDs and DVDs have softer coatings which are more scratchable, but which can be polished out with liquid abrasives. I would not try that on Blu-ray or UHD. Useless. Unwise.” |

I finally got to watch my copy last night. Every bit as good as I remember in the theaters!
The presentation was phenomenal as well! Definitely watch this one when you can turn up the sound, as your boi Brass Tax would say, "have yo' girl sit on the woofer and see what happens!" Visually, there is a light dusting of grain and the detail is plentiful. It's not an excessively sharp title and there are a few soft shots I noticed, but it still retains plenty of detail through most of the movie. HDR is not overdone, however specular highlights have a nice pop to them. Black levels are rich, though there are a couple of scenes where I noticed slightly raised black levels. That may be to eek out just a little bit more shadow detail, though. All in all, a very, very good movie worth every penny I've spent on it! |

Just finished this and I absolutely loved it. As for the PQ it was fantastic. Colour saturation is bold with plenty of detail. Highlights looked gorgeous. I’m so glad the DV black levels are fixed now, black levels were perfect. Aside from a few missteps Paramount is doing something special with their releases.
The Atmos track is one of the best I’ve heard. My wife doesn’t comment on sound but she did here. This disc will be on heavy rotation. |

Stopped it and tried to restart but it froze at the beginning this time. I had to eject and start over again. This time it played fine. Still haven't figured out why there would be a nail sticking up through the step or [Show spoiler]

Just got done watching this also.
Really nice PQ/AQ! Glad it was in DV! I loved it, and my wife thought it was okay. I personally wish the ending was better though. Saw some people say not much replay value in the “movies” thread, but this is something I see myself re-watching some. Glad I purchased it! I’m a huge fan of The Office and glad to see “Jim” direct such an awesome movie. Hopefully he will keep this up! |

I'll probably end up purchasing it on Black Friday for the Atmos sound design.
It was pretty decent for a modern monster movie, but then it fell into the same trap of showing more and more and more with less and less character development with very similar tropes and means of counteracting the threat. The aliens were basically, as mentioned already, Venom mixed with other creatures seen before... especially just recently Stranger Things. The audio effects design team made them sound a lot like raptors from Jurassic Park and the attacks were quite similar in nature along with the T-rex Jeep attack from JP as well when going after the kids. Still, not a bad film by any means. Just not as original as the studio wants you to believe and the characters are your typical monster movie stupid. Spoilers for SIGNS and for A QUIET PLACE: [Show spoiler] Whatever its faults, I enjoyed the movie quite a bit. I liked how they spent most of the time using sign language. Then again, soundproofing isn't all that hard to do. I have no clue why they didn't do more of it at home haha |

![]() The story still had a ton of plot holes and contrivances... just like any average, run-of-the-mill monster movie. The keeping quiet or the monsters or ghosts or whatever lurking in the dark (or the ground) will hunt you down has been done before. The only thing that really saves it is Emily Blunt's acting. Blunt sells the terror. She could read the phone book and make that performance seem compelling. Last edited by FilmFreakosaurus; 07-15-2018 at 05:12 AM. |

Okay so just got done watching it and yeah most of the time the PQ in DV was amazing. Black levels were perfect most of the time. Then for some reason this keeps happeneing to me, some scenes have the blue tint to them for the black levels. I cant understand why it does that. The Last Jedi for some reason all the black levels had the blue tint and wernt black at all.
Anyone explain why? Maybe my HDMI cable is doing something? |

If all the devices have the very latest firmware to allow Dolby Vision support, etc., you also have to make sure you're plugged into HDMI ports 1,2, or 3 on the Onkyo and only HDMI port 1 on the Vizio. If you're all clear there, it's possible that one of the HDMI ports has gone faulty. |
