As I expected... Just another Best Buy exclusive steelbook.

Which version of American Werewolf in London is the best? I heard the newer transfer was waxy, is that true? Thinking about picking it up to add to my Halloween rotation this year.

Theres a region free import if you don't feel like waiting for a U.S. release

I'm not terribly surprised about The Fly. I don't think any of their Fox acquisitions had previous Blu-Ray releases in North America. I am surprised that, to my knowledge, the only Blu-Ray release for The Fly II is the Australian Via Vision release. Between Shout!, Kino and Twilight Time in North America and Arrow in the UK, you would have figured one of them would have gotten it at some point.

Pick your poison, but I'd probably go with the "Restored" edition. Depsite the heavy filtering, there is an uptick in detail, which is especially evident in scenes with text in the foreground or background.

That I can believe. Still odd, how could the release of this film by an indie label affect two very well established careers in any way?

Deadly Friend would fit right in with another slate like that.

Honestly, I’m guessing, if there’s 10:
Bats
Carnosaur
Candyman
Deadly Friend
Dr. Giggles
Eyes of a Stranger
Fright Night
He Knows You’re Alone
Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein
Saturday the 14th
I can see Carnosaur, Bats, and Saturday The 14th announced next month with Mary Shelly's Frankenstein! but i can see the other ones you mentioned potential and don't forget FN's sequel as well.

If you order and it says lithograph/poster in the item description, you’re good.

I'm surprised Scream hasn't announced "Saturday the 14th" the original DVD release was just a VHS rip and looked terrible, it has never has a decent Home Video Release and over the years the film has managed to create a cult status among 80's horror film fans.

I feel like most B-movies have a “cult status” these days. But I’d be interested in seeing Saturday the 14th on Blu-ray.

It looks like Amazon are the only ones that are going to be carrying ROTLD2. Best Buy doesn't have it, Walmart doesn't have it, DiabolikDVD doesn't have it. Really strange. So now Amazon has no reason to lower their price.

Yeah, I'd be cautious about ordering it from Amazon as until someone else lists it at a lower price Amazon likely will not be lowering theirs. So if you really want to pay a higher price for it then it may be better to order it from Shout directly and get the bonus items and early delivery. If you are willing to wait though it sounds like all the regular retailers will at least be able to sell it by its normal release date.

Amazon.ca have it for $26 if you don't mind waiting little longer for delivery...

I have a feeling it was more about compensation, or the lack thereof, for their newfound name value than it was about damage to their careers.

So the film had actually sat around a number of years before it actually got to Columbia/TriStar?

We had to satisfy a ton of different things, legally as well as actual product. In other words, we had to make all kinds of different versions of the video transfer, and all sorts of post-production stuff, all of which of course they threw in the trash because they changed the name of the film [from The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre]. And then they also re-edited it in some fashion.

In any event, Columbia/TriStar entered into this contract before anybody really knew who Matthew McConaughey or Renee Zellweger -- the two leads in the picture -- really were. They had agreed to do the theatrical release and to spend no less that $500,000 on prints and advertising. Well, they actually started gearing up to do the theatrical release and even put trailers out on their video releases saying "coming to a theatre near you" in January, and then in June of 1996. Originally, they wanted to hold the film until after the release of Jerry Maguire with Renee Zellweger, which didn't seem unreasonable to us. So that came and went and nothing happened. Then they started telling us that, off the record, CAA [Creative Artists Agency], which is Matthew's agent, was putting pressure on them not to release the film theatrically. In any event, we sued Columbia/TriStar, and then ultimately decided that we were not going to be successful because the arbitration provisions in the contract were so strong. We dismissed our cases and are now preparing to file another lawsuit against CAA, for interference with our contract. That will probably be filed this week.
How did the film get to CFP? Did Columbia/TriStar farm it out to them?

Quote:

Of course, we ultimately ended up giving Columbia/TriStar that anyway, but they gave us $1.3 million, and CFP wasn't in a position to do that.
End game?

They don't want to be guilty of exploiting Matthew because of their relationship with CAA, which is the strongest single force in Hollywood these days. You get on the wrong side of them, you're in trouble.

So I understand their problem, but at the same time, they should have either given the film back to us or they should have done the best release they could have done. And they haven't done that.

It wouldn't surprise me, either, if this had nothing to do with the previous issues from the 90's and was instead a names / likenesses issue similar to the issues that forced them to use theatrical art for the Death Becomes Her slipcover.

Bullmoose has it listed for $25 but doesn’t allow you to order. I see no reason to pay $35 on Amazon for it if I can get it for $25.

Not likely. For the August - October titles probably, but beyond that remains to be seen. I have a hard time believing that this is a permanent change.
