I'd accept that with a sprinkling of ATMOS please!

What does everyone else think of the anamorphic 2.39:1 photography? A rarity to see that in a TV show (the Cradle scenes in Westworld S2 come to mind) and a notable change from Season 1's flat, 2:1 aspect ratio and spherical lenses.

Some may object because it makes it look even more like the Abrams films, but personally I kind of dig it.

The whole aesthetic looks great to me, the starships especially the Enterprise look great, they don't suffer from the low light glossy sheen, which while very nice, did not do justice to the designs.

The actor playing Pike looks more like Jürgen Prochnow than Jeffrey Hunter.

Yes, because similarities to the original cast was of the utmost importance both here and in the Star Trek movies!

From Trekmovie:

Any reaction to either the Wrath of Khan story or the Picard story?…There are rumors, care to debunk, or is it alive?

Kurtzman: I mean, they sound super cool, I’m a huge fan of both stories, it’d be really cool to see something like that.

I'd say low. I would think they'd not want to sow the seeds of more timeline confusion, and they clearly want to emphasize this is original timeline trek. Having a Kelvin films actor would hurt that effort. I expect a new actor to play the role.

Interesting development, if it can be called that lol. What ever they decide to go with, I just hope they manage to make it feel fresh.

I'll just be happy if they can cut down on the amount of handheld camerawork during dialogue scenes; they can't keep the d*mn thing still and it really distracts me. It's becoming so common in television and movies now and I really dislike it.

Haven't seen S1 yet so god knows when I'll see S2 (I know it's not out yet, but still) but I loves me some anamorphic and it looks absolutely fookin' glorious in that trailer. [edit] Even the warp effect seems like it's been cribbed straight from the Abrams films whereas it looks different again in S1 (just watched the first three eps, me likey!!)

I’m forgetting when exactly Nero travelled back to but isn’t this series in *both* of the timelines before the time travel?

Neo traveled back to right when Kirk was born, and Discovery happens 10 years before TOS. Ergo, Discovery happens after the divergence point.

TWOK one is being done by Nicholas Meyer.

So save the handwringing.

It would still be under the auspices of Kurtzman, which taints it. Plus Meyer hasn't done anything spectacular with Trek since 1982, and hasn't done anything more than engaging with it since 1986 (not a fan of the character assasination in TREK VI at all.)

Well, regardless of what you may think about his work post TWOK, we *were* supposed to see new Trek writing from Meyer in the 2nd episode of Discovery, but his teleplay was completely rewritten by the two writer/producers who were recently fired from the show for abusive behavior to the staff.
