I thought I heard the Rock (Dwayne Johnson) was supposed to be in this movie as the star, but if he's in it, he's only the supporting character.
Good to see this is being offered in 3D, if the 3D is worthwhile. DC has been inconsistent with their 3D standards so far. The trailer is entertaining for this style of over the top character. |

I don't get the negativity here. It's clearly not a major budget effort, but looking at the trailers WB released over comiccon, I thought this was clearly the best. Aquaman and Godzilla had that overly processed CGI disconnect, and nothing they showed gave any indication that they have a functioning human storyline.
This looks somewhat lightweight, but reliably entertaining. |

Shazam definitely doesn't take itself seriously and reminds me of some of the comedy super hero movies, like Super Hero Movie, or Blankman. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blankman
This does look like it's made for younger audiences though, unlike Kickass 1 and 2, which were intended for older audiences. |

well, we'll see. It seemed funny and grounded from what I saw. The other two movies have yet to convince me that there's more to them than just empty spectacle. I'm a bit burned out on movies like that. Just not sold on them yet.

Captain Marvel was always light, both in the 40s and when he returned in the 70s. He was known as The Big Red Cheese. So the tone for the movie seems appropriate.

I question anybody who watches that trailer and is not excited. Zachary Levy is literally perfect for the role as it’s been presented in the trailer.
I love how silly it takes itself. This could be DC’s best effort yet, including above Wonder Woman. SHAZAM! |

My limited research implies that, up until the 1980s, Billy Batson and Captain Marvel were two separate personas.
This is the character I know from my youth. The concept that Captain Marvel retained the personality of the adolescent Billy apparently originated in the Shazam! The New Beginning comic series of 1987. Which is why this Greatest American Hero/Big mash-up is so foreign to my understanding of the character. I'll pass. But I won't blame the movie for what has happened to the character. Instead, I must blame one of my favorite comic writers, Roy Thomas. |
