FYI
I stumbled on the product page of this set again at Amazon.com and it said “save an additional $2 on checkout” with the price still being 51.29 but 49.29 upon the final checkout screen. My original order still said $51.29 and did not have the price adjusted so I’m not sure if this is an additional promotion or what? I cancelled my original order and reordered for the $51.29 + $2 promo for $49.29 + tax -- just to lock in. The price in this new order is listed as a base price of $51.29 with a $2 promo; so hopefully, if the price drops further, it will be reflected in the base price with the $2 as an additional promo addon. I'm 100% certain the ITunes 4k masters are Fox supplied ones and will be the same ones on the UHDs. Saw Pred 2 and it's certainly an improvement over the previous BD (though the contrast seemed a bit boosted and black crushed in parts, could be due to the HDR-SDR conversion on the AppleTV).

2 has more film grain than the BD, that's for certain (considering the rampant Itunes compression). The color timing didn't have that magenta tinge as the DVDs or BD did, but I found the contrast/brightness to be a bit hot and the blacks extremely crushed (though as I mentioned, it could be due to the HDR/SDR conversion the Apple TV does). Audio sounced pretty much the same to my ears and in terms of the 5.1 remix there wasn't much of a difference between the DVDs and BDs.

All the movies are now in HDR on iTunes. Is someone able to check Predator 2?

Fox could make for Predator and Predator 2 one worldwide pressing like they did with Alien and Aliens, so the costs are minimal. UHD is a niche market, the sales of 1080p Blu-rays are way stronger. Take Sony as an example, they did with Jumanj, Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal and some other titles complete new remastered 1080p Blu-rays. Or take Warner as an example with Unforgiven, The Matrix and 2001. Fox decision here is lazy and stupid, nothing more. |
