And according to DiabolikDVD twitter ....

DiaDVD.jpg

makes you wonder what else might make it to 4K UHD by the end of the year.

I swear I keep thinking Synapse will do a surprise drop of a 4K for Suspiria

and also if Studio Canal are doing an Evil Dead 2 overseas then I'd bet LionsGate will release it in the U.S.

This is one of those movies I just haven't gotten around to watching on disc despite owning it on blu and dvd. It was always one of those "I'll screen it during a Halloween party" ideas that never came to be.

I definitely agree with you there. I have the Scream/Bay boxed set and then went and ordered the Canadian double feature disc of the Zombie movies because the theatrical cuts are infinitely preferable to me (especially the first one). 31 was a real disappointment because Zombie and murderous clowns have such a great track record, but it just fell flat. I saw an interview later where he basically said he made the movie after his more ambitious ideas kept getting rejected just because he knew he'd be able to get funding and finally make something, but the limited budget really shows in everything from the sets to the fight choreography. That being said, Richard Brake was terrific in it and I'd happily watch a Doom-Head spin-off.

I would pay extra for a set that DIDN'T include Resurrection. I like to pretend it doesn't exist. Yeah, it's in the set I have now, but I ignore it. On the rare occasion when someone suggests watching it (invariably someone who hasn't previously seen it), I take the Westworld approach.

"How about we watch this?"
"Watch what?"
"This movie. Halloween: Resurrection."
"It doesn't look like anything to me."

Hoping for a higher/full bit original. While its gotten better over the years, maybe its me, but it's doesn't feel like it quite has the punch as the LD. The laserdisc has an English PCM 768 kbps mono soundtrack. I compared them and and still felt the LD was the winner.

Atmos, sure why not, I'm curious. Unlike some I don't hate the current 5.1/7.1 remix. I feel like its better than the mono in some spots and worse in others.

I do not believe the last transfer was from a 4K master. So this should be a nice boost in the picture quality, and hopefully the colors will be stronger across the board which was the biggest problem of the last transfer.

Are we sure the Anniversary BD received a 4K scan? I thought I read it was 2K. I’m not concerned about the color timing but I would like details. As long as it’s filmic with grain intact and HDR handled tastefully I’ll be more than pleased. I guess we can expect the DV treatment as well.

The slip/brochure inside of the 35th Ann BD said something like "new 1080p transfer".

I am curious to see confirmation if Cundey supervised this 4K transfer as it's just an assumption I made.

Could this mean that in October, more than 1 studio will release classic horror movies in 4k?

Not super excited about having to buy another version of Halloween. But I can't say I'm not interested to see what the quality will be like, considering every version looks different. I should've known Lionsgate would try to milk every last drop out of this film, but they got my money again this time. With Jesse from Diabolik offering a special price, count me in. It will be a great way to start my biannual Halloween series watch this October.

As cool as the first couple years have been with UHD establishing new titles, and some strange, obscure catalog titles (The Quick and the Dead, The Patriot, etc.) it's time to open the flood gates for both horror and sci-fi.

I dunno about them being "strange [and/or] obscure", for if there's one thing you can rely on with Sony it's that they've got plenty of catalogue favourites that they love to keep re-releasing on format after format. We should keep an eye out for Desperado, it should be coming any day now

I know they aren't "classics" but I'm still shocked that none of the Conjuring films are coming to 4k in time for The Nun

Evil Dead II is also coming out overseas. Wouldn’t surprise me if Lionsgate released that film too, along with the original. It’s 16mm though, if that’s an issue.

Evil Dead is 16mm, Evil Dead II is 35mm. The BD’s look nice so I’m expecting the same with them on 4K.
