I think Netflix will be next. I expect the change within the next year. Youtube will follow.

I am now relying on discs more than EVER!

Amazon Prime has started to put some Previews of upcoming Shows, but they are short and interesting. You guys forget, you have all that Junk on your Discs, and a lot of it you can't stop. They seem to be putting more and more, and they can put what ever they want on those Discs. That's why I enjoyed watching my Back-ups more than the Commercial Discs.

Its a bit different from having your display cluttered by pop up messages and emojis. Also, as I understand it, on mobile the video only takes up a quarter of the screen to allow for messages. Does my smartwatch theory look far fetched still? I mean, if you are going to watch content on such small screen real estate, why not just watch on a watch and comment on the phone?

Suddenly, my theories don’t seem so way out anymore, do they guys?

Facebook watch? So it is vertical video at full screen? All the images I have seen show what I described with the video at the top. To go full screen means flipping the phone and losing the social comments.

Common sense would tell you the video is going to be smaller on portrait mode because of the aspect ratio of the phone and footage. If a video is shot in portrait mode it will be full screen. Otherwise, yes you rotate the device to fill the screen due to the ratio. You can also collapse comments on portrait mode.

In other words, yeah people are watching titchy videos. Just so they can comment on said video. Doesn’t that concern you?

Why do I care if someone watches a video and posts a comment after? These aren’t live streams.

Come on Groot, you know how quick tech trends grow. Next it will be Netflix, before long we will not have the option to opt out. These companies benefit from social videos.

The thing I am referring to is Facebook Watch parties that allow one person to host and then several others to join them? The comments are live for live or pre recorded videos.

YouTube and other apps have been doing this for years. They make money off ads, not trolls commenting.

The point of watch parties is to make an interactive event. I don’t use Facebook so I’ve never used that but a quick search just seems like a Skype situation meeting videos. Not bothered by it given people who move and keep in contact.

It’s not Skype. It’s one person who hosts and then they can invite people to chat with via messaging during the broadcast. It’s not only user generated its Facebook’s new video content. What’s more, Facebook want to introduce it for all genres as far I am aware. So in other words, they are trying to reinvent tv for a social age imo. Considering This is mostly involving smartphones, I’m sure you can see my concerns about what the future may hold.

They may force the social aspect and make the option to watch without comments and interruptions obsolete. Netflix could in theory, do the same, even on a large tv.

Explain to me how Netflix does that exactly? So someone is X minutes into the show when they are watching and commenting and someone else is just starting so they are commenting out of sync.

What Facebook is adding a video and chat (Skype does both) to group viewing apparently. So people want to chat with their friends and watch something or live stream. Basically their version of Twitch.

One person would host and stack several shows. They would then invite friends and the video would be synced with the host.

The chapter skip button usually allows you to quickly zip through the previews and right into the main menu.

Sometimes pressing the menu button will bypass all of that junk, too.

Previews do not bother me so long as they are optional. If I wanted commercials, I would watch TV.

While this does not appeal to me, it also does not bother me. If I wanted to share a movie viewing with a friend who was far away, I would just simultaneously use Skype or Zoom. I'd probably use voice chat as typing is not something I enjoy despite all evidence to the contrary.

I primarily watch content from discs, so I have even less reason to care. Generally speaking, I feel how other people entertain themselves is their own business. So long as I have my choices, I do not resent theirs.

I stream something occasionally. If the viewing screen real estate was compromised to accommodate room for comments and other such bilge water with no option to remove it, then, yes, I would be annoyed. I would be annoyed enough to cancel that service.

On some discs, you have to 'fast-forward' through the previews. I've had the odd disc where the chapter buttons wouldn't work, but you were still able to speed through them all and end up right on the menu. I agree with you - I've no problem with them if they're optional.

If this takes off like i think it will and we dont have the option to disable. Also it may push more generation z away from big screens and even more towards mobile.

So someone who doesn’t have friends on these apps is forced to do what exactly?

I usually enjoy the previews, especially if I am unfamiliar with the movie being previewed, the first time that I play a disc. It is on subsequent viewings where the front loaded and (sort of) forced previews become irritating. Ideally, previews should be in the extras menu only.

I also noticed that the previews play a lot louder than the feature. I have to turn down the volume just for them and then back up again for the movie. All that button pressing is hard work.
