Fair enough. It has been explained though that people can get what they want from Amazon. Why bother going to store? Especially with one day shipping.

Some don’t buy from them due to the way they treat employees or want to pay for prime. I personally don’t shop there given I’ve sued them for allowing people to sell counterfeits of my items. Rare circumstances, ha, but I’m sure most don’t like the prime cost and/or don’t get their items within their stated time. Back before I stopped two day shipping was more like 4-5 days. I prefer Walmart.com

You must make some excellent items. It is said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I can understand why you would be unhappy with Amazon. People seldom like companies they have had to sue.

I have been a Prime member since it began in 2005. All I have ever cared about was the 2 day shipping and that I could include others on my account. I am displeased with their recent price increase to $119 annually. I almost cancelled it, but doing so would have also caused everyone on my account to lose their shipping benefits.

IMO, technical people has/will have problems communicating with laymen. Laymen being people not trained in the same field as the technical person in question. When a technical person tries to help a laymen and the laymen continues to contradict the technical person (or well informed laymen) it becomes irritating. The flip side, some non technical people grasp the concept of various subjects and feels right at home with them.

My main issue here is the amount of video compression (data reduction) used for Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray vs. the amount of video compression used for streaming services. The streaming services applies much more video compression than that used for BD & UHD BD. In doing so it creates aberrations and artifacts in the video. The fact that some (most?) people can not see them does not mean they are not there. I see banding and aliasing all the time in video from streaming services, its fairly rare but I do see it on some BD titles.

Streaming services have no interest in making file sizes larger, they want even smaller file sizes. As I noted in another post they pay a lot of money to Limelight and others for data storage. As their library grows so does their data storage cost. The other charge they have is based on the amount of data streamed.

So anyone here care to download a 40GB file to see how long it takes. That would be about the same file size as a average BD title. There are utilities available to see the file sizes of DVD’s, BD’s, not sure about UHD BD’s. Must have the requisite hardware.

There is ways to see data rates from your streaming provider, it does require certain models of routers. Your router firmware is replaced with a 3rd party firmware so there may be risk involved. I will provide a link if interested, just don’t blame me if you tank your router.

That’s what streamers can’t grasp. This is not technical progress it’s just convenience. Always will be for the reason you mentioned.

If an eye roll emoji offends you (my last post quote of you) then you need to log off the internet for good.

Of course more "disc lovers" have shown up, one of you complained enough to the mods to get it moved FROM the digital section.

It also really killed the conversation and now its just the same 3 or 4 of you in your hiveminded echo chambers.

I do not see what the problem is with calling any public place of business to verify information. It is not in any way a violation of privacy. It required little time and effort.

It is not as if we called someone's parents, spouse, partner, or pastor and inquired after them personally.

If someone tells me something that seems incredulous, I will take a moment to check it out. If that makes me weird and bizarre, then I will continue being weird and bizarre. There are far worse things to be.

You have been encouraged to echo your own pro digital and streaming opinions on several occasions. Instead, you only pop in to complain about specific forum members and/or about the topic du jour.

You are free to do that, but you are also more than capable of providing some counterpoints and balance to this thread. The thread is infinitely more interesting when varied opinions are presented.

When you choose to present a case, I have, on occasion, found them to be well reasoned. We had a good conversation about Apple 4K TV and also about Vudu. Even some of your positions with which I disagree, I still found to be well thought out.

This is a "versus" type of thread; there will be disagreements. If fans of one side or the other, or even those who enjoy a measure of both, choose to abandon this thread, that's their choice.

I am an avid supporter of physical media, but you do not hear me calling for the end of streaming, or of digital purchases, nor do I predict the demise of either. I stream content myself, albeit infrequently.

I believe the market will continue to support all of these methods of viewing content. I am able to enjoy my preferences and you are able to enjoy yours.

The overt concern with whether or not his store had discs aisles to try and catch someone in a lie is...weird. Googling his location, finding the nearest Best Buy, and calling up for a chat is wayyyyy over the top. Plus, kinda silly given Best Buy has been shrinking those sections for years and the stores are being evaluated and setup based on average sales in that city.

This is just an area where we will have to disagree.

In my instance, all I did was dial the phone number that was conveniently provided for me. I felt it was appropriate to contact Best Buy before making a reply, yet alone an accusation.

Reducing a section is not the same as eliminating a section, either, just as a decline in sales is not the same as a collapse in sales.

Claims made by forum members are routinely investigated, even the most trivial ones. Naturally, triviality is subjective.

Only a few 4K Displays, and when I talked with the Sales Reps they said they are getting rid of all Disc Sales at the Store, maybe OnLine for a while longer. So maybe Discs are headed for an early departure....May they RIP!

Thanks Groot, even a back handed compliment is good. I know Asiles from Display Units, and the Movie Aisles that were there are gone. They still have those Cardboard Display Units as you come in the Store, and some Bins and some other Display Units but the Movie Aisles are gone. Chad was wrong. We'll have to wait for Best Buy's Annoucement.

Well, lol, I do disagree with your sentiments on somethings but this isn't one of those things I am gonna get on you about.

My Best Buy is almost the same, except for two 6 foot or so long disc aisles/units by the gaming sections. People on Reddit have saw the same, Yelp shows photos of stores like this. My Target is down to just two rows and three center kiosks. They converted one row into books, another into vinyl records, and the back of one is now Funko Pops.

Still weird as hell to call someone’s local store. Plus it’s not hard to google that the stores have cut down their media sections heavily.
That sounds like the couple of Best Buy stores I go to also.

And of course it has the new release rack near the front of the store and two dump bins. (one dump bin for $5.99 Blu-ray's and one dump bin for DVD's)
