That's one big reason I picked up this version of the 35th anniversary edition -

Steelbooks with original artwork on them are rare.

I kinda wish that those making surround mixes would try to replicate the original sound effects as much as possible without them sticking out like a sore thumb.

Like take the surround mix of The Terminator. I really don't mind Cameron changing the SFX for the plasma weapons, as they're now the sounds heard in T2 but its the damn new sounds for the laser sight pistol that really takes me out of that mix hardcore (also Cameron neglected to fix the sound for the shotgun during the police shootout in one instance, if I recall correctly).

Zoom already has a 40th Anniversary DVD and 40th Anniversary Blu-ray available for pre-order (release 24th September) so I'd expect the UHD release to be up shortly.

So it’s not that people are averse to a surround VERSION (hell, I’d love to see this movie in surround), but the surround mixes have never been done properly, and it ruins the experience for those who are intimately familiar with how this movie has always sounded.
I can definitely understand wanting to watch the movie in its original audio format (I would want to watch the movie in that format myself). Because then you can experience what it was like to see the movie in theaters in 1978. My only problem with that is then the audio is only coming out of two (?) speakers in the front. I have two speakers in the back behind me and three speakers in the front (not including the TV speakers). That'll be a ton of speakers not being used at all during the movie. So, I feel like in original mono, the sound will be "weak" and I'll have to crank the volume up to its max just to have a loud immersive sound.

When you listen to a CD, it’s generally intended to be heard in stereo (i.e., two speakers). Do you listen to every CD in surround mode? If you do, you shouldn’t.

When you watch a movie that’s 2.39:1, there’s a lot of TV real estate you’re not using because of the black bars. Do you zoom in on all 2.39:1 films so that they fill your screen? If you do, you shouldn’t.

Just because you have X number of speakers, that doesn’t mean that EVERY film you watch is INTENDED for all those speakers. Halloween is a low-budget, moody horror film made in 1978. It isn’t a blockbuster action film made in the past few years, and it shouldn’t be expected to adhere to the same technical standards as those movies. Part of being a film enthusiast is learning to appreciate the art as it was created, not as it might sound had it been made in present day.

To be clear, it’s no skin off my teeth if you want to only ever watch Halloween in Dolby Atmos. What I’m saying is, those of us who believe in everything I’ve just written want the original mono included. You asked why, so I’ve attempted to explain it to you.

Side note: when I do watch Halloween, I use the FULL MONO setting on my receiver, which just sends the same signal to all channels. Best of both worlds IMHO.

I’m interested in hearing how the PQ and AQ comes out. I’m more of a NOES fam, but definitely enjoyed this movie as well.

EDIT: Coming back to clarify that I certainly don't mind the inclusion of remixes in Atmos, as many love them, but I always watch with original audio when available.
This assumes this doesn't inherit the T2 curse.
Has Lionsgate even released a stellar 4K disc yet- in the picture quality department at least?

Solid pre-order price, but given it's a Lionsgate catalog title, it wouldn't be too long before it hits $15 or below.

Since I assume they will be using the same master as the 35th, which was scanned form the negative and colors by Cundey, it should look similar to that.

Sicario looks pretty good. T2 was more StudioCanal than Lionsgate. Halloween and American Psycho are the first catalog-shot on film titles to not be from a DI. So we'll play the waiting game with how they turn out.

That reminds me Studio Canal are handling the Evil Dead II UHD, I hope they don't add any DNR.

The DNR was mainly due to it being done as a 3D conversion.
