lol hey! If your set is at the bottom, then it'd be the last to go on the FED Ex truck, making it the first to come off! So you should hope yours is at the bottom! haha

This will include the HDR to SDR conversion and how it performs with a projector.

I can confirm full 2020 support with SDR output and no need for a linker/vertex/fury to enable this mode.
Hi Kris, can you please comment on how the Panasonic HDR Optimizer (tone mapping) compares to the Oppo Tone Mapping? Trying to decide whether I should sell my 203 and get the 824. I amusing a JVC RS500 so this is critical.

Thanks.

Mine keeps bouncing from Wed to Thu lol. I'm actually more intrigued to check out streaming, to see if they have improved it any.

It would be nice if they started putting out Amazon and Netflix as 24hz...

Can anyone who's getting the 820 let me know if it has the same feature at the BDT500 (but wasn't included on the 460) in which you can hit FF and it will play at 2x speed with sound (adjusted to a lower pitch so the voices don't sound like chipmunks)? I love it when there's a Netflix DVD playing that I'm not really into but want to see the outcome.

So I just spent a couple hours putting in a 4 different discs and skipping around. The Mummy, Die Hard, Starship Troopers and Unforgiven. All I have is a 1080P projector, the Epson 5030UB. The HDR to SDR conversion works REALLY well. I had heard I was going to get a dark and washed out picture and that is not true at all. I put their blu-ray counterparts into my Oppo BD103 and flipped back and forth for a reference. Every time the 4K disc looked better and it wasn't darker. The only disc that actually was darker was Unforgiven. It wasn't awful but it was noticeably darker. Overall this is the UHD player if you need good SDR conversion.

Set the optimizer to different modes, put on a very bright scene, and toggle the optimizer. Best to try it with a 4000 nit disc like Batman v. Superman. Share some screen shots with us too.

Only Netflix for now. I've asked Japan HQ to tell me when we'll have amazon, VUDU, HULU, YouTube and web browsing along with several other questions and enhancements. I expect a reply in the next few days at most.

Robert I saw the latest FW added Netflix. Do you still go into that odd tile screen for net apps, or is it just an app icon like other players now? You'd figure Amazon would be swift.

What adjustments do you have access to when outputting SDR? IS it just the luminance slider, or can you tweak the dark and bright area controls?

I didn't have access to the luminance slider in SDR mode. I went through all the menu options and didn't find anything unless I am missing something. Still what I got was really good. I may have to tweak my projector settings later a bit.

Hopefully that's not the case. If so it's a backwards step from the ub900 for me and if be better off with that

Why would someone need a luminance slider for SDR? Just wondering.

Especially for non hdr displays the average brightness for uhd can be dark. On the ub900 the luminance slider allowed you to boost the average luminance with little consequence unless you really cranked it. My hope was some of the other controls would be available as well for sdr tone mapping.

Someone mentioned the HDR to SDR conversion was really good from what they could see.
