The excitement in this thread caused me to want to give this series a try. I watched part one tonight and was pleasantly surprised.
The special effects with the puppets (stop motion photography) was quite well done for a movie of this vintage and budget. Sometimes, the endings of horror films can almost kill them IMO, but that certainly wasn't the case here. The ending was just a hair "tidy" for my taste, but the final scene definitely left me wanting for more. All in all, I wouldn't call it a masterpiece, but it's a nice setup for the franchise. By the way, the old guy playing as Toulon looked VERY familiar to me and I couldn't place where I knew him from. I looked him up on IMDb but even then I couldn't quite place my finger on the movie or show I seem to be remembering him from... |
