My observation is that the One-Clicks sell out quickly regardless of their 3D/4K make-up. The best example is the Ex-Machina release which was only a 2D offering where the One-Click version sold out immediately, closely followed by two of the three slips selling out shortly after on the same day. The One-Clicks are clearly a highly “collectible” offering that are quite popular irrespective of their 2D/3D/4K make-up.

On the Ready Player One release my opinion is that if there were two 2D/4K slip offerings and just one 2D/3D slip offering, then the One-Click and the two 2D/4K offerings would all be sold out and only the 2D/3D version would still be available at this point.

You keep ignoring the quantity available in your analysis. The people selling these don't seen to share your opinion, otherwise the 2D/3D version would be the one with the lowest print run. Are you thinking their thought process is "3D is a hard sell... let's make to make more of that version that any other!"? I don't think 3D is as dead outside of the U.S. as you think it is (otherwise, why do I have to keep importing 3D discs?)

If I'm going to guess, I'd put format preference lower on the list when trying to figure out why something sold out. I would imagine artwork and quantity would come before format. If the 4K version had the cover of the lenticular slip, it would still be available.

I can say the #1 reason I would've bought the one-click if I would've remembered to get to the site by 8AM this morning was that art work. I don't care if it had all 3D discs, all 2D discs, or all 4K discs.

My argument makes sense if we can agree to stipulate that the goal of the manufacturer was to sell out the entire run in one day. If that was the goal then I believe that their thinking process was flawed. This is pure speculation by all of us since we don't know how may of the 3D sets remain. It could very well be that both 2D/3D sets are almost gone. However, when this particular run was first revealed I knew that the One-Click would sell out immediately, which it did, and that the 2D/4K version would soon follow, which was exactly the case. If it were my decision to make, I would not have gone with two 2D/3D versions, but only one. It's pretty clear that the demand for the 2D/4K set was higher given that it sold out within about two hours, and both 2D/3D sets still remain available. It's just an opinion based on a very limited set of facts and the knowledge that 4K is on the upswing and 3D is a fast trend downward - regardless of how much you seem to like it.

I've got a pre-order in for the HDZ one-click, otherwise I would have purchased the Manta One-click this morning (did buy their dble Lenti).
Hope I made the right call as far as One-clicks go, time will tell I suppose...

Sure I can. You're just a supporter of 3D, which is perfectly fine, but you choose to ignore that new demand for 3D TVs is practically zero - at least in the U.S. market.

Everything stated here has nothing to do with this release. Manta sells globally so what Best Buy pushes is unrelated. I have more 4K movies and have spent more on that setup than my 3D one. I support both formats but yet again the evidence you put forth is flawed. I know 3D is losing ground among the mass population in the US, BUT the mass population isn't buying $60 steelbooks from Hong Kong. Using a very select group of collectors as a representation of the general population is misleading. If Best Buy were selling these, AND they had the same print run AND the same artwork your argument would have some credibility. As stated before too many variables.
